Originally due on October 23, bugs and problems plagued the European
launch of the revamped Playstation store, delaying the North American
(and Brazilian) launch. Thankfully, now we can experience the more
user-friendly layout along with our European compatriots.
On first look, the layout looks like it's mobile-inspired. With the product icons in HD-friendly format, everything is crisp and clear, eliminating the need to squint at your television for the tiny text of the previous iteration. The feature categories like, “New to PS3” even feature sliding screens of product icons, much like widgets on a smartphone.
One of the best changes is the upgrade to the search engine. Previously, the search function was clunky, difficult to use with its keyboard format, and occasionally unresponsive. Now, it features a list of letters, and a more comprehensive prediction system, so that you're less likely to have to go through the trouble of typing out the entire query.
Overall, the Playstation store update appears to be a hit. Sony seems to have really listened to its audience in order to address all their concerns. The store is neatly organized and visually appealing, making it easier to spend more of your money on the Playstation store.
(Yay?)
