Are you a fan of MMOs, Star Wars, and BioWare? Are you also too broke
(Or just plain unwilling?) to pay the subscription fee? Next week,
starting on November 15, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be
free-to-play for any class from the game's level 1 to 50.
There are, naturally, restrictions for those playing for free; particularly if you're a PvP (Player Versus Player) gamer. The number of Warzones, or PvP arenas, you can join a week are limited – however if you should want to join more than the allotted amount, subscribing still isn't necessary. The game will allow players to purchase individual packs with Cartel Coins ($4.99 for 450 Coins; $39.99 for 5500 Coinds). Free players will also have a specific number of character slots, storage space for items, and restrictions on equipping rare items.
Overall, it seems that this free-to-play model is becoming more and more popular in this era of gaming where subscribing to play every month seems to be looked down upon. Will this new model increase the number of long-term players (and hopefully profits) for the popular Star Wars MMO? Or is it indicative of an unwillingness to let go of a dying breed of gaming?
