Steam Linux Beta Starts Today

If you're one of the noble few who uses Ubuntu 12.04 I have some fantastic news for you. Steam Linux beta is now available for the open source operating system. Ubuntu was chosen from the Linux pool due to the majority of the interest being from people using that particular flavor of Linux.

Officially only Team Fortress 2 is supported however, a search on Steam shows that 25 games will currently run on Linux. "This is a huge milestone in the development of PC gaming," Valve president Gabe Newell says.

Valve received well over 60,000 applications to gain access to the beta, Valve plans on sending the beta invites from this pool and expending over time.
