Zone of the Enders HD Collection (Video Game Review)

The world was first introduced to Zone of the Enders back in 2001 on the PlayStation 2, and over 10 years later, Konami is bringing back the classic series with the Zone of the Enders HD Collection. The new combo pack of games includes the original title and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner with new high definition graphics, additional cutscenes, trophy and achievement support and more. The two titles have received major facelifts, but the Hideo Kojima classics you loved so many years ago are still mostly in tact here in a good way. You'll want to pick up these two reworked classics for the great gameplay and timeless storylines, but Konami has added the demo for Metal Gear Rising Revengeance to sweeten the pot.

In the original Zone of the Enders, players are introduced to a futuristic world where wars are waged with giant robots known as Orbital Frames, and the game's main protagonist, Leo Stenbuck, is about to happen upon his very own called Jehuty. The protagonist will fight off plenty of deadly enemies and receive help from some new friends as he escapes the clutches of those that would do him harm and saves the world. In Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, a new protagonist finds himself in control of Jehuty, and along with some newfound friends, the new Jehuty pilot will fight against the tyranny of BAHRAM with battles taking place in all types of environments across various planets in the galaxy. Both games feature strong storylines, filled with many great characters like Kojima is well known for creating throughout his career.

Still, the biggest reason for the success of the series is its fantastic gameplay. Zone of the Enders HD Collection brings back the classic close quarters melee combat mixed with long range shooting gameplay you've come to expect from the series, only the action looks better and is more fluid than ever before. As you defeat enemies in the game, you'll level up your character and earn powerful new weapons to use in combat. While both games are a blast to play, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner provides some of the most fun and quickest ever, and its never been more apparent than while zipping around avoiding damage and skillfully taking out enemies in Zone of the Enders HD Collection. Of course, the games' anime inspired artstyle returns here as well, and with the games remastered, high definition presentation, these games have never looked better. A fantastic presentation is made whole with the return of a good soundtrack that resonates well with the high-paced combat you'll encounter through each game in the Zone of the Enders HD Collection.

It's likely been several years since you've picked up and played either of the titles included in the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, and even though there mostly more of the same, the changes made to the collection makes them feel almost new again and not outdated in the least. Fans of the series will enjoy the new cutscenes and brand new opening cinematics for each game, and those who never got a chance to try out the game when they were new will find they have been missing out on one of the best series video games have to offer. When you consider the Zone of the Enders HD Collection contains two awesome games for less than the price of many new games, you'll realize what a great deal picking up this new collection for the holidays will be. Nobody knows action games better than Hideo Kojima and the Zone of the Enders HD Collection contains two of the best ever from the brilliant mastermind that brought the world other great titles such as the Metal Gear series. The Zone of the Enders HD Collection is the perfect game to get your ready for the release of Metal Gear Rising Revengeance next year, and not just because the demo comes packed in the collection.
