Overtime stars former ECW and WWE superstar Al Snow as a professional hitman named Raph. The company Raph works for tasks him with assassinating scumbags once his boss has gotten a big paycheck for acquitting the clients of their crimes. Often times, Raph finds himself having to choose between his job and spending time with his family. When Raph's son is about to be celebrating his birthday, Raph and his partner Max (John Wells) find themselves desperately trying to stop an alien invasion to save the world and make it back to the birthday party without ticking off the wife. Along the way, the duo encounter plenty of strange characters including a video game store employee that takes his job too seriously, a homeless man who will don anything for a drink and $50 and a crazy woman hell-bent on destroying the planet. The film blends together equal parts action, science fiction, horror and comedy to create a film that seems a bit random at times, but one that eventually comes together in the end for a fun ride that is well worth the price of admission.
Al Snow and John Wells make a great on-screen duo that will remind viewers of all-time greats such as Riggs and Murtaugh from the Lethal Weapon series, Lee and Carter from the Rush Hour series or even more recently J and K from Men in Black 3. The two actors work perfectly together, feeding off each other's charisma in perfect synergy just as you'd expect a former Tag Team Champion to operate. The film also has some nice performances from other characters including strong female roles from Raph's wife and Max's potential love interest(s) introduced later in the film. The film's main enemies in the film are the half-alien, brain-craving, undead Zaliens, who provide excellent cannon fodder and comical moments as well as some pretty gross scenes of gore. Overtime isn't the best horror movie ever, but its a release you'll want to see for yourself, and gamers can stick around for the overtime credit rolls for another funny look at the commercial for the Ybox 720 video game system.
We don't expect Overtime to be a best-seller or win any awards outside of the horror community, but the film is surprisingly fun considering it was almost entirely created with the two man team of Matt Niehoff and Brian Cunningham. Overtime is in a genre all of its own, so plenty of fans can enjoy the laughs, scares and action the movie has to offer. The film has been over two years in the making, but it has finally arrived, and it was worth the wait. Overtime is gory fun at its finest. Look for the film New Years at Walmart, Blockbuster and other retailers nationwide!
