New Trailer Announces Multiplayer Experience for Tomb Raider

Developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix have released a brand new The Final Hours trailer for their upcoming game, Tomb Raider. The new video is the most surprising yet, as it reveals the multiplayer experience for Tomb Raider. The competitive multiplayer of Tomb Raider will see the island's Scavengers facing off head-to-head with the survivors of the shipwrecked Endurance. The multiplayer will include a variety of game modes and will still implement survival tactics set on the dangerous island where numerous traps are waiting to kill unsuspecting players. The action of Tomb Raider's multiplayer is fast paced and will allow players to find plenty of weapons from the game including Lara's signature bow and more high powered firearms all while setting traps of their own that other players must be wary of. You can check out the newest trailer for Tomb Raider below for the big reveal and read on for quotes from the development team on the newly announced multiplayer modes in Tomb Raider.

“It’s something we talked about when creating the initial design for TOMB RAIDER, but it was very important that there weren't any distractions from our focus on delivering a great single player experience, so we parked the idea of creating multiplayer at Crystal Dynamics and looked to our sister studio, Eidos-Montréal,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics.

Stephane D’Astous, general manager at Eidos-Montréal added, “It’s been a privilege for the team at Eidos-Montréal to be a part of TOMB RAIDER. We built multiplayer from the ground-up, around the core theme of survival, using some of the key elements of the single player campaign and re-purposing them for a fast and exciting experience. It’s been an amazing project, one we’re immensely proud of and one which we really think gamers will have a lot of fun with.”

Gallagher concluded, “For me, the multiplayer has to fit and has to be fun or no one will play it. We’ve worked hard to make multiplayer fit seamlessly with the single player game and its key themes and we’ve play-tested the hell out of the multiplayer game. It’s working well and gamers are enjoying it. Now we’re all just eager to get TOMB RAIDER into gamers’ hands in March so they can experience the entire game for themselves.”

Tomb Raider is now available for preorder from most major retailers for the MSRP of $59.99 and is scheduled to release on March 5, 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Tomb Raider is rated M by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence & Strong Language. For more information on the game, check out the official Tomb Raider website.
