Crazy Machines Golden Gears (Video Game Review)

Crazy Machines Golden Gears is a new "Rube Goldberg" inspired puzzle game that tasks players with completing challenges in the most roundabout ways possible using a large inventory of tools and other items. Gamers unfamiliar with Rube Goldberg will want to know he was an American engineer and cartoonist who saw a rise to fame in the 1940s and 1950s with his depiction of cartoons where various tasks were solved and completed in the most indirect ways possible; think of the board game Mousetrap, and you've got a good idea of what the cartoons depicted. Crazy Machines Golden Gears takes this idea and ports it to tablet devices in a brand new video game release that features plenty of challenges and even includes a level editor. If you're a fan of puzzle games, you will want to check out Crazy Machines Golden Gears.

There are over 40 challenges included in Crazy Machines Golden Gears that can range from hitting a button to power up an object to lighting a fuse for a fireworks display and everything in between. You are rewarded with more points and thus a higher rating by adding as many items to a challenge as possible while still managing to complete the task with your newly created contraption. Part of the fun in the game is experimenting until you find a complex system of items that will complete a certain task for you, but make sure you plug in your electrical items! Showing off completed stages to friends is also a blast as you compare and contrast the different ways you have solved the same challenge. The game can seem difficult at times, but you'll have a tutorial that will introduce you to the intricacies of the game as well as a professor that will offer you tips as you build and test your inventions.

The new release of Crazy Machines Golden Gears comes packed with a Level Editor mode that allows you to easily create your own custom levels and challenges with 60 different parts at your disposal. Once you've created the perfect collection of items, you can save and upload if you wish, and you can also download community created levels for new challenges outside of the 42 challenges built into the game. You can earn Golden Gears by creating and uploading new maps that can then be used to unlock additional challenges in game, so it's important to stay active in the Crazy Machines Golden Gears online community. These tools included in the game's level editor are the same used by the developers to create the game, so you're really only limited by your imagination when creating new challenges.

Crazy Machines Golden Gears has an excellent presentation that features quick loading times, an addictive theme song and plenty of charm. Some hardcore gamers may be turned off by the purchasable in-game items, but you can be sure you'll have plenty to do in the game whether you choose to purchase more items and unlockables or not. Crazy Machines Golden Gears is a fun title that challenges your problem solving skills and offers plenty of replay value, as you continue to replay the same challenges to earn three-star ratings and complete challenges in all new ways. The all new level editor adds even more depth to the game and nearly a multiplayer component as you create and share custom levels socially. The award-winning Crazy Machines series is back and better than ever before in Crazy Machines Golden Gears.

Crazy Machines Golden Gears is now available for iOS, Android & Kindle and can be purchased for $2.99. Crazy Machines Golden Gears has been rated appropriate for all ages. For more information on the game, check out the official Crazy Machines Golden Gears website.
