Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes (Video Game Preview)

Fallen Enchantress is a new series from developer Stardock Entertainment that released in October of 2012, and Legendary Heroes will bring the game its first true expansion. The upcoming release will be packed with plenty of new features that include gameplay improvements, new weapons, additional Heroes and more items in general. An improved engine also allowed the developers to vastly improve the game's graphics with new lighting, shading and shadowing effects that really bring the game to life. Longtime fans will also notice plenty of improvements, bug fixes and other subtle differences that make the game better than ever before. Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes will be a worthwhile expansion that adds all of these improvements to an already great game that fans of the original game should be lining up to purchase when it arrives in early May. Now is also the best time to get into the series with a special bundle that includes the original game plus its expansion for only $39.99, so if you're a fan of turn-based strategy titles, you're going to want to check it out.

The story of Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes continues the tales told in the original game. After an apocalyptic event known simply as the Cataclysm, much of the world has been destroyed along with the people living in it. The few remaining survivors struggle to survive in a world ruled by a group of monsters known as The Fallen. It is up to you as the magic wielding Channeler to use your powers to unite the remaining kingdoms and free the world from the Fallen and the other threats throughout the world. The new expansion continues the story by adding new Champions that can come to your aid through acquiring fame for your kingdom. If you have what is takes, you can build your kingdom through the tough opening segments of the game and build towards an eventual showdown with the malevolent Fallen Enchantress. Storyline is largely an afterthought in Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes, but it is built on a good foundation that keeps you focused on an overarching goal that all missions will build towards.

Similar to other turn-based strategy games, Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes will have you start off with very little resources, as you choose a starting location for your newfound kingdom. This is an important step that will determine how fast you can attain certain resources based on your kingdom's location. The new expansion makes it easier to choose locations with improved visuals and HUD that run even smoother on older computers than the previous release. Of course, new maps have been added that make the game more interesting this time around when choosing a location for your kingdom. One of the big new additions is the addition of more heroes and the statistic known as fame that will eventually draw Heroes to your city that can then be recruited to fight for your cause. In addition, Skill Trees have been added that allow you to allocate skill points and build your Heroes and warriors in the way you want to build the ultimate power houses or defensive tanks or however you decide to train. The steep learning curve the game presents still makes it tough to understand how to play and win in the early game, but with a little perseverance, you'll soon have a kingdom powerful enough to compete with whatever the game throws your way including all new random events and occurrences.

As stated before, the graphics of Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes have been greatly improved this time around. If you played the original release, you'll instantly notice the difference upon booting up the game. Fallen Enchantress was built to be played on any computer, and it's nice to see the game's visuals have greatly improved this time around without sacrifice of performance on older computers. In fact, the opposite is true, as the game seems to run even smoother if anything. Plenty of new weapons, enemies, maps and other items have been added with the newest expansion, so even if you're a veteran player who has mastered the original release or a new player, there is something different to experience in Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes for everyone. The core of the game hasn't changed, as you'll still be gathering resources and researching new Civilization, Warfare and Technology all while building up an army to take out the enemies in your path. Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes is a game that definitely shouldn't be overlooked, and if you're a fan of turn-based games, you should pick up the game immediately and download the new expansion when it arrives next month.

Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes is now available for preorder for $39.99 and is scheduled to release exclusively PC in May 2013. For more information on the game, check out the official Fallen Enchantress - Legendary Heroes website.
