Resident Evil Revelations (Video Game Review)

Resident Evil Revelations shocked the world when it was released last year for the Nintendo 3DS for all the right reasons. The game set the standard for what a high quality title could look like on the Nintendo 3DS with incredibly detailed graphics and superb lighting that created some of the most chilling settings in a Resident Evil game to date while showing off the power of the handheld platform. The game also helped piece together the stories of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine between the events portrayed in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5. The result is a game that is easily a must play title for Resident Evil fans everywhere and gamers who enjoy a great survival horror storyline, and luckily for us, developer and publisher Capcom has announced the game is coming to all major platforms with brand new features to make the game even more entertaining and easily accessible than ever before.

Resident Evil Revelations stars two sets of teams, as Jill Valentine and her partner Parker Luciani head out to see searching for the missing Chris Redfield and his partner Jessica Sherawat by following their last known coordinates. This leads the team to the ominous Queen Zenobia cruise ship with horrors onboard that make other Resident Evil games look tame in comparison. Meanwhile, Chris and Jessica find troubles of their own on their mission before setting off to assist Jill and Parker. Soon, the teams find themselves in a battle to save the world from yet another bioterrorist attack from a new enemy. Resident Evil Revelations does a fantastic job of introducing new characters and further establishing Chris and Jill as two of the favorite Resident Evil characters ever. The game's branching storyline is entertaining and easily comparable to what Capcom did with the newest entry in the series, Resident Evil 6.

Longtime fans of the Resident Evil series will feel right at home in Resident Evil Revelations. Rather than relying heavily on action packed sequences and quick time events that require quick reflexes, the new game focuses on classic gameplay with frightening enemies and environments in true survival horror style. Locked doors, blocked passages and other obstacles make traversing the narrow corridors of the Queen Zenobia take on a true sense of horror and claustrophobia. Classic puzzle design is a huge part of Resident Evil Revelations and requires players to work together on many puzzles to find their way through the game. The majority of the game is still focused heavily on finding better weapons and searching for scarce ammunition, and the game is fully cooperative with an additional player or a computer controlled partner making this a great game to play solo or with a friend.

Once you've completed the main campaign of Resident Evil Revelations, players can challenge the all new Raid Mode. Similar to Mercenaries Mode in previous Resident Evil titles, Raid Mode allows players to team up and take on waves of difficult enemies with a goal of making it from one point to another safely. The mode features a diverse cast of characters from the history of the series, and characters can be leveled up to gain better skills or weapons. In addition, the new release of Resident Evil Revelations features new enemies and an additional difficulty setting for even more replay value, even for players who have mastered the Nintendo 3DS release. Resident Evil Revelations also looks better this time around with enhanced graphics that take advantage of the more powerful consoles and PCs, and Nintendo Wii U owners get even more features with the ability to play with two screens, access and leave messages for other players and even taking the game from the television to the Wii U gamepad to continue in a different room. The same chilling soundtrack and great voice acting are featured in the game to make this a more immersive experience on PC and consoles. If you have yet to play Resident Evil Revelations, there's never been a better time to pick up the title, and fans of the series have no excuses now that the game is available across all consoles. Pick a copy of Resident Evil Revelations and take survival horror back to its roots.

Resident Evil Revelations is now available for pre-order from all major retailers for the MSRP of $49.99 and can be purchased for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U and PC. Resident Evil Revelations is rated M by the ESRB for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Language. For more information on the game, check out the official Resident Evil Revelations website.
