Gamers to raise funds for transplant patients (Press Release)

Since 1983, the National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) has been helping transplant patients raise funds for the medical treatment they otherwise may not be able to afford. Based in Memphis, Tenn., NFT works with transplant patients across the country, giving them the tools to execute fundraising campaigns in their own communities.

Over the years, NFT has worked with many wonderful supporters to raise awareness and hope for transplant patients. This year, the nonprofit is thrilled about a partnership with The Zeldathon Network, a group of gamers that fundraises for charities doing what they do best—conducting The Legend of Zelda marathons.

The summer 2013 marathon, which begins Friday, July 5, is titled Zeldathon Lives, and its proceeds will benefit NFT and transplant patients across the country.

Starting July 5 at 4 p.m. (EDT), a team of more than 25 people will begin streaming gameplay live at http://zeldathon.net, and they won't go off-air until July 10 at 4 p.m. (EDT).

When viewers of the live stream donate, they will have the ability to put their money toward certain donation goals and challenges.

The Zeldathon Network has been conducting marathons for the past three years, having raised more than $110,000 for charities worldwide such as Child's Play, the American Red Cross and most recently, charity: water.

This year’s marathon goal is to raise more than $50,000 for NFT.

“We wanted to make it possible to give the gift of life,” said Matthew Moffit, co-founder of The Zeldathon Network. “Transplants do that; they make it possible for somewhere out there to live! That's something that hits home with us and really gets to what we wanted to accomplish. That's why we called this marathon Zeldathon Lives, because we are directly giving life to those transplant patients who are helped by our donations.”

More information and launch trailer available at http://zeldathon.net.

With more than 118,000 Americans on the transplant waiting list, NFT and The Zeldathon Network are raising hope for transplant patients nationwide.
