Remember Me (Video Game Review)

Remember Me is the newest release from developer DONTNOD Entertainment and publisher Capcom. If you're ironically having a tough time recalling what Remember Me is all about, it is a Capcom release that has been in development since 2008 and was one of the most anticipated titles in the gaming industries until Ubisoft announced Watch Dogs and consequently stole Remember Me's thunder. Remember Me is set in Neo-Paris 2084 and features a heavy emphasis on this futuristic setting and a technology developed in the world that allows for the creation and control of memories in any given individual. Equal parts platforming, melee combat and stealth make up the gameplay in Remember Me with an overarching emphasis on remixing memories. The result is an exciting new series that should see many more releases from Capcom in the future.

Remember Me's storyline is heavily influenced by today's social media and the desire people have to share their every thought and action on various networks. Players control Nilin as a former memory agent for the Memorize corporation, which is one of the most powerful in the world and specializes in memory sharing technology over the web. Nilin's job was to steal and alter memories for a living, but a series of events led to her own memory being wiped and her joining with a resistance force against Memorize known as the Errorists. Nilin will have to work together with her former enemies to find and recover her lost memories and bring Memorize once and for all. The influence of social media networks is prevalent throughout Remember Me and sets up a really interesting world that is a blast to explore as much for its interesting storyline as its aesthetic wonders and sprawling, futuristic scenery.

Action combat against large groups of enemies is a key component that makes up the gameplay in Remember Me. Melee attacks come in light and heavy attacks and veterans to this style of combat will obviously want to learn the more advanced combos in the game to juggle enemies and pummel them to a pulp. In addition to Memorize agents, Nilin will come across Leapers--a mutant race developed from memory-addicted humans that gathered an unsafe quantity of memories and settle beneath the surface world of Neo-Paris in order to survive. Often times, it will serve Nilin to not charge into confrontations with enemies head-on, and the game offers a variety of ways to deal with the same situations. Platforming stealthily across buildings and structures undetected is one option but not always the easiest to execute. Nilin also has abilities that allow here to enter the memories of her enemies to distract or immobilize them for some time to gain an early advantage in combat. Then there are other missions throughout the game that will force Nilin to drastically change an important memory to make someone commit a murder or some other act in the past. These play out as almost puzzle like segments in the game that require changing around items in a room and other actions that can eventually change the memory's outcome. Remember Me offers up truly unique gameplay that is rare in a gaming industry that seems to be always looking for the next great shooter rather than a game that thinks outside the box, and the result is a truly memorable experience that will be hard to forget.

Remember Me is a great looking game with a cool, futuristic theme that makes it a blast to play, especially for fans of science fiction. Exploring the beautiful Neo-Paris can be a lot of fun as is chaining together combo attacks in combat and unleashing devastating special attacks. Take too much damage in combat, and your screen and HUD begin glitching out for a nice touch on the futuristic theme. Even the game's soundtrack plays heavily into this theme to provide pulse pounding songs that makes the game exciting throughout the entire campaign. Composer Olivier Deriviere created the orchestral soundtrack, then changed it with electronic equipment for the futuristic vibe that completes the science fiction vibe that makes Remember Me truly great. Whether you're a fan of the action beat 'em up genre looking for a quick fix or a fan of strange games that offer something completely new to the gaming industry, Remember Me has something for every type of player. Jackson County Fair in Scottsboro, Alabama (Event Review)

The Jackson County Fair has invaded Scottsboro, Alabama for the week of October 7-11, 2014, but the event may be a waste of money for some.  The fair was the 79th annual showing and was presented by Kissel Entertainment. The event featured rides, exhibits, games and great (yet too expensive) food for attendees at the show. Families could have enjoyed a great time at the fair grounds, but the event wasn't cheap and it didn't feature some of the more prominent attractions like one would find at larger, state fairs and carnivals. The turn out very low in Scottsboro though, and many would think that this would make it easier to enjoy the event but not even small lines could help make the Jackson County event fun. The Jackson County Fair had over a dozen rides for all age groups. The fair's massive Ferris Wheel towered high in the sky and helped light up the event, while the Moby Dick ride and Gravitron also looked fearsome and stood tall even from a distance. Plenty of ...
