Richard Garriott and Jon Mavor Talk Gaming, Space and Asteroid Mining in Google+ Hangout Friday, June 28 (Press Release)

Space and video games go together like Halo’s Master Chief and Cortana – one simply makes the other better. Join renowned video game pioneer and second-generation space traveller Richard Garriott (aka Lord British), and Uber Entertainment CTO and creator of Planetary Annihilation Jon Mavor, as these two worlds collide in a Google+ Hangout where they will talk space domination, asteroid mining and the similarities between multiplayer gaming and crowd-controlled space telescopes. The event takes place this Friday, June 28 at 10 a.m. PDT.

Both Garriott and Mavor are supporters of Planetary Resources, the asteroid mining company, and its quest to crowdfund ARKYD – the world’s first space telescope controlled by the public. In addition to taking far-out space selfies and being able to search for alien planets, ARKYD will enable gamers to implement their otherworldly skills into a real-life challenge that has the potential to save the planet from extinction-caliber asteroids.

If the ability to search for alien planets and strike down passing asteroids isn’t enough, Mavor will give both space and gaming enthusiasts alike more reason to get involved with this history-making mission. During the Hangout, Mavor will reveal plans to incorporate an ARKYD spacecraft into Uber’s upcoming Planetary Annihilation video game, as well as share exclusive details on how campaign backers can get a free digital copy of the game (a $90 value) and a Planetary Commander avatar.
