Metro: Last Light - Faction Pack (DLC Review)

Developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver released Metro: Last Light across most major platforms back in May, and the game was quickly recognized as one of the best first-person shooters of the year (read our review here). The game is a successor to the highly popular title Metro: 2033 that reintroduces players to the game's main protagonist Artyom is a post-apocalyptic Moscow. New features and innovations made its way into the game including powerful and unique weapons and shooting mechanics and impressive graphics that the series to a whole new level. Now, the game has received its first DLC called the Faction Pack to give players even more content for an already excellent game.

The Faction Pack adds three new single player missions to the game where players take control of three unique characters with different perspectives on the world and its inhabitants with each new mission. The first allows player to take control of a deadly accurate sniper from the Redline that must make his way into a dangerous Reich outpost by the cover of night and a radioactive storm cloud. The mission offers up some of the most tense moments in the entire DLC and is a blast for players that enjoy taking down enemies from a distant and using stealth tactics to avoid detection.

The second mission works alongside the first mission to provide an even more in-depth look at one of the Reich outposts featured in Metro: Last Light. Players take control of a heavily armed guard who must protect the outpost from invaders in this scenario to give the mission a completely different view in both storylines and how the player will interact with enemies with some of the most powerful weapons in the game at their disposal.

The final mission features a young Polish Army Ranger offers up a completely different style of mission as players search the dangerous environments of Metro: Last Light in search of valuable scrap that can be salvaged and traded for some important in-game items. The mission is much more of a puzzle with a built-in time constraint, as players desperately search for much needed items, then turning and heading back through the maze to safety before precious oxygen supplies completely run dry. Each mission offers up something fun and unique, and each are definitely worth experiencing for fans of Metro: Last Light.

Faction Pack for Metro: Last Light packs a lot of great content for only $4.99 and is an even better deal when players download it for free with the Metro: Last Light Season Pass. The team behind the game have already announced three additional add-ons releasing in the coming months including the grueling challenges of the Tower Pack, the Shooting Gallery and other bonus content in the Developer Pack and more additional single player chapters featuring Pavel, Khan and Anna in the Chronicles Pack. Fans of Metro: Last Light may have completed the game a couple of months ago, but there is still plenty of life in this great title to be sure. Download

Metro: Last Light is now available from all major retailers and can be purchased for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
