DuckTales: Remastered takes one of the all-time favorite titles of many gamers and gives it new life with incredible HD graphics and enhanced sound design. The new release not only offers older gamers a huge wave of nostalgia, but it actually manages to translate into a fun game even in the current generation of video games, whether the player is a fan of the DuckTales cartoon series or not. The game was built by the same developers that brought the world the highly popular Mega Man series and presents the same type of challenges and great gameplay that series has always been known for. DuckTales is surely a game that deserves to be mentioned among the best ever, and DuckTales: Remastered offers the best way to play that game
DuckTales: Remastered features the same storyline of the original release; Scrooge McDuck heads to his gold vault to beat away some crooks before they make off with his money, only to discover their true intent was to steal a valuable painting that housed an even more valuable treasure map. The map tells how to find a great treasure, and this opening scene provides a nice tutorial leading into the main quests of the game that take players to The Amazon, Transylvania, African Mines, The Himalayas and The Moon. Old school gamers will enjoy seeing the numerous characters from the classic show and their childhood, while a new storyline will allow new players to learn more about the characters even with no prior knowledge of the show. DuckTales: Remastered features a good story with great humor, though story scenes can pop up too frequently for players who have already completed the game once.
Levels in DuckTales: Remastered are laid out similar to that of classic Mega Man games. There are five worlds in all, and each features some difficult platforming sections before finally facing off with a boss from each realm. Scrooge fights enemies with his trusty cane by swinging and hitting objects back at enemies or using it as a pogo stick to land upon and deal damage to enemies from above. The pogo stick maneuver is also constantly used in stages to cross dangerous gaps and access out of reach treasure chests full of gold and jewels. There are many hidden areas and items that will allow Scrooge to collect even more money, so players will need to be thorough while searching through each level.
There is a decent amount of new content included with the new release of DuckTales: Remastered that wasn't included in the original version of the game. The most notable addition is an extra art gallery that allows the player to unlock concept and character art for the game with the currency gathered in-game. Online leaderboards also keep track of fastest times and money to give players even more incentive to grab as much gold as possible. New controls allow Scrooge to perform attacks easier, and there are also three difficulty settings that will make the game as easy or hard as the player would like.DuckTales: Remastered doesn't pack a whole lot of content for a $15 release, but the game does offer great replayability to make it more of a bargain than most other games.
The best new features in DuckTales: Remastered give it an overhauled presentation that makes it one of the best looking and sounding remakes that has ever been released. The game's graphics are incredibly impressive and make the characters look just like they did on the show. The game's environments look even better and offer some colorful designs mixed with lighting that truly brings the different worlds to life. The sound design is also vastly improved and will have you tapping your foot from the moment you start the game and the 8-bit instrumental of the DuckTales main theme begins playing. The rest of the game's soundtrack is equally impressive and still features many of the all-time classic tunes with minor improvements made for the new release. Many of the classic Disney actors have lent their voices to the characters in the game too, in order to help make the game as authentic to the source material as possible.
DuckTales: Remastered is exactly what a remake should be. The game offers greatly improved graphics and sound design combined with improved controls and bonus features that make the game worth purchasing a second time, even if you already own the NES version. DuckTales: Remastered is just as entertaining and addictive as the original, and whether you're playing the game for the first time or just reliving the old days, DuckTales: Remastered offers something new and enjoyable for all fans of the game.
