Boston Symphony Announces Events for Fall 2013
The Boston Symphony Orchestra has announced details for Fall 2013 which includes such noteworthy events as a concert led by BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons. Read on.
Among the most noteworthy performances in the first half of the BSO’s 2013 is a concert led by the newly announced BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons, conducting the orchestra for the first time since his appointment, in the music of Wagner, Mozart, and Brahms (Oct 17-19). Other highlights include a performance of Shostakovich’s Cello Concerto by famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma, under the direction of French conductor Stéphane Denève (Oct 3-8); a concert of Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem led by Charles Dutoit (Nov 7-9); and a world premiere performance of Neikrug’s Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra, a Boston Symphony commission featuring BSO principal bassoonist Richard Svoboda under the baton of Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos (Nov 21-23). Conductor Christoph von Dohnányi leads the Boston Symphony’s All-Brahms Opening Night concert on September 21 featuring violinst Augustin Hadelich and cellist Alban Gerhardt.
