Elysium: The Art of the Film (Book Review)

Titan Books has just released Elysium: The Art of the Film written by Mark Salisbury with over 164 pages of colorful photos. The book features a forward by director Neill Blomkamp, alongside a ton of production photos, concept art and even input from designer Syd Mead. Blomkamp's Elysium is a sci-fi film that stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.

The film takes place in 2154 where the wealthy live in the utopian setting of Elysium. The space station has access to advanced medical practices which can cure illness and disease instantly. However, everyone without loads of money live in the "Third World slum" that is now Earth. Max DeCosta (Matt Damon) develops cancer from an industrial accident and now is on a race against time to make it from Los Angeles to Elysium to get cured.

Elysium: The Art of the Film details every aspect of the film and divides the content into two sections which are Earth and Elysium. Inside the book are detailed designs for everything from the beautifully designed environments to the intricate weaponry. The book ingeniously contrasts the objects from both worlds showing how items from Elysium are shiny and sleek while anything from Earth is old and weathered.

Elysium: The Art of the Film lets fans go behind-the-scenes of the movie with insights from the cast of the movie, early drawings from designer Syd Mead, and concept art of all the weapons & futuristic gadgets. All-in-all, Elysium: The Art of the Film is a perfect companion piece to the film and will answer any additional questions you may have about aspects of the movie's production. Elysium: The Art of the Film is now available, and you can visit the official Titan Books website to learn more.
