Extreme Reality (XTR3D) is now accepting submissions for the Extreme iPad Challenge 2013. The contest is open to iPad game developers and features prizes worth $10,000 alongside a meeting with EA founder Trip Hawkins.

From the Press Release
Extreme Reality (XTR3D), the only company to bring full-body 3D motion control experiences to any computing device and operating system via a device’s native or peripheral camera, today announced the call for submissions for the Extreme iPad Challenge 2013. The contest, open to iPad game developers, features prizes of up to $10,000 and a meeting with EA Founder Trip Hawkins to the most innovative motion experiences and uses of motion control in an existing or new iPad game.

Games submitted by the deadline of October 15 will be evaluated by a panel of well-known judges that includes:

  • Trip Hawkins, Founder of EA
  • Jeff Pulver, Founder of Vonage
  • David Nixon, Content Director for the Casual Games Association
  • Matt Turetzky, COO at Lima Sky

The top three winners will receive awards of $10,000, $6,000 and $3,000 respectively, and will be promoted in Extreme Reality marketing efforts after the contest. The top winner will also receive a meeting with gaming pioneer Trip Hawkins, the founder of Electronic Arts, on any topic of their choice. All games participating in the challenge and submitted to Extreme Reality by October 15th will receive unlimited free use of Extreme Reality’s Extreme Motion technology in perpetuity for the game they enter into the contest.

In addition to the judge’s top three winners, a “People’s Choice” winner will also be determined by popular vote and win a MacBook Air.

"The Extreme iPad Challenge is the perfect way to showcase the talent of indie developers while also incorporating the Extreme Motion technology on iOS," said Trip Hawkins, founder of Electronic Arts. "It's clear that motion control on multiple platforms will have a dramatic impact on the gaming industry in the coming years and the Extreme Motion technology is on the forefront of this trend allowing developers to create unique games of all genres and enhance the overall user experience."

“With the thousands of iPad games available now that are based on traditional touch control, we are on the verge of an entirely new generation of games where players control the game simply by the motion of their body, without touching the device,” said Sarit Firon, CEO of Extreme Reality. “Many types of games can be motionized and entered into the contest, including games that focus on adventure, sports, fitness, dance or just plain fun. The Extreme Reality team is eager to push innovation in these new motion game experiences, and we expect to see some creative new uses of motion through this contest.”

Developers can sign up now by submitting their project proposals at http://www.xtr3d.com/ipad-challenge-2013 . After their concept has been approved, they will receive the Extreme Reality SDK that enables them to easily add motion to their game. They will have until October 15 to submit their game to Extreme Reality, and until October 22 to upload it to the Apple Store. Evaluation of the games by the judges will begin October 25, and winners will be announced on November 1.

The judges will review the following six aspects in their scoring:

  • Motionization – Best utilization of motion control to enhance the game experience
  • Graphics and Audio – The level of visuals and audio in the game
  • Gameplay - The storyline and mechanics that underpin the game. Is it fun to play?
  • Stickiness - Does it have lasting appeal? Is it addictive? Would you finish the game? Would you play it again?
  • Polish - Is the game ready for prime time?
  • Usability – Is it easy to use with minimal explanations? Is it intuitive?

Also on November 1, voting begins for the People's Choice award with winners announced on December 1.
