World of Warplanes' Open Beta Receives 0.5.3 Update

Wargaming has announced that update 0.5.3 for World of Warplanes is now available. The new version will introduce several branches of fighters, an advanced mouse control option and much more. On top of this, players will also get two new maps, 12 premium planes, improved gameplay balance, a new sound engine and the list goes on. Read on.

The substantial update introduces a new line of British Royal Air Force warbirds and its tech trees, as well as changes to existing tech trees, crew setups, weapon sets, and more. Version 0.5.3 introduces several branches of the British fighters and heavy fighters, including such renowned models as the Spitfire, Blenheim F., Skua, and Javelin. Furthermore, it adds a new advanced mouse control option and eleven gift and premium planes.


As World of Warplanes continues its Open Beta testing, new achievements and crew skills have been implemented to present virtual pilots with even more challenges. Two brand new maps—Fjords and Eastern Front—further add to the game’s variety of features.

The 0.5.3 Update brings players closer to a release version of World of Warplanes and includes the following key features:

  • Two new maps, Fjords and Eastern Front:
    • Fjords - unique mountainous landscape adds another element of complexity for higher tier gameplay
    • Eastern Front – beautiful backgrounds showcases a city style warfare, reminiscent of one of Britain’s great battles
  • Full British line of warbirds and its tech tree – includes all of the classics: Spitfire, Blenheim F., Skua, and Javelin
  • New and improved control schemes – provides a host of customization options for mouse, joystick and gamepad
  • 12 New Premium Planes – 11 automatically available to all beta players for testing
  • Brand new sound engine – real recorded engine and gun or cannon sounds
  • Detailed and improved gameplay balance – performance, flight model, and stalling
  • Balanced and improved tech trees for all nations
  • New and improved tutorials
  • Performance optimization at all settings levels
