Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia (Book Review)

Capcom was a video game developer and publisher established way back in 1983. The company is currently one of the most popular video game creators in the world and is well known for having a massive roster full of iconic characters created in its 30 years in the industry. Capcom first rose to fame with franchises such as Mega Man, Street Fighter and Resident Evil series, while the company has continued to revolutionize its gaming library with great new franchises that include the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Dead Rising series. Capcom is a vital part of the gaming industry as we move into the next generation of console video games, but the new book called Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia is offering fans a chance to look back at all of the iconic characters from the history of the company over the last 30 years.

Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia is packed with over 200 pages of character art and information on the various protagonists and antagonists that help make up the world of Capcom gaming. Nearly every page in the book represents a different character from the Capcom roster, and each page contains a couple pieces of character art, a game logo and a character biography. The pages tell the history of the character from early development until the newest releases for their game series. There is also a special statistic chart that tracks different pieces of information that includes but is not limited to the character's first appearance, current games, nicknames, archenemies and weapons of choice.

Whether you consider yourself a fan of Capcom or not, there are sure to be a few characters contained within the pages of the massive hardback that have some special meaning to you. There are nearly 200 different characters within the book including all-time greats such as Dante from the Devil May Cry series and Leon Kennedy from the Resident Evil franchise and even more obscure characters including Chuck Greene from Dead Rising 2 and even characters available exclusively in Japanese releases. Each page has plenty of information about each character and is of such a high quality that they could be blown up and printed out to make wonderful posters to hang on the wall for fans of the characters.

Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia is a high quality publication. The hardback cover provides safety for the book that should easily last until the 50th Anniversary of Capcom and beyond before showing much wear. The imaging of the cover shows off some of the best characters from Capcom's history in classic blue and yellow classic Capcom colors. The insides of the books are also expertly made with high quality ink that won't smear or fade with time, and each page is complete with a glossy finish to make the book's content really pop.

Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia is a good investment for gaming fans that want to add another great book to their personal library. The contents of the book are enough to make fanboys drool over, and there is plenty of information on nearly every pivotal character ever produced by the company. The only real knock against the new book is that some of the lesser known characters may have been sacrificed for additional images and details on the better characters, but then it wouldn't have been as thorough of an encyclopedia then. Capcom 30th Anniversary Character Encyclopedia is currently available for 33% off at $10.80 from many retailers, so fans can get a really good deal on a really amazing read if they act now.
