Insurgency Beta Adds Outpost and V.I.P. Escort Game Modes

Insurgency Beta adds two new game modes which includes Outpost and V.I.P. Escort. The two modes were requested by the community and now have been incorporated into the game. Read on.

New World Interactive (NWI) revealed today that two new game modes – Outpost and V.I.P. Escort – will be available later today in the INSURGENCY Beta, and will be showcased at 12 PDT, Sunday, October 13 on the fan-favorite streaming site, Twitch.TV. Outpost mode pits players against unending waves of increasingly tough AI opponents while V.I.P. Escort mode tasks gamers with a dangerous escort mission whereby one team must successfully protect and extract a person of interest.

These are two modes that have been highly requested from our community and so far the results have been really exciting,” says Jeremy Blum, development lead at New World Interactive. “VIP is really intense and fun even on a smaller scale. Outpost has proven to be highly enjoyable as well even in these early stages.”

In the “Defend the Alamo” type game mode Outpost, players’ teams must survive one level at a time as the enemy waves stack up – each level harder than the last. There is no real winning in this mode, so the real question is, just how long can gamers and their buddies last?

V.I.P. Escort, on the contrary, is a multiplayer mode with a high emphasis on teamwork and coordination. The escorting team must pick one of many routes to get to safety and evade the enemy. The ambushing team is tasked with eliminating the V.I.P., so the escorting team must move with extreme caution to protect this player at all costs.

The best way to take part in INSURGENCY’s indie game revival is to see the game in action. NWI will be showcasing its new feature set on Twitch.TV this Sunday from 12-3 pm PDT. During the event, NWI’s Blum and co-designer Andrew Spearin will walk gamers through the new modes, answer questions, give away codes, and discuss their design philosophy and show it in action.

INSURGENCY is leading an indie revival of the tactical shooter genre. In the live Beta, which launched August 22, players take to the streets for intense close-quarters combat, where a team's survival depends upon securing crucial strongholds in 32-player adversarial combat or in up to 10-player cooperative play. INSURGENCY offers three highly unique multiplayer game modes and three additional co-operative game modes with bot support. Capturing objectives prolongs the entire team's opportunity to achieve victory, while matches often become an epic tug of war as both teams struggle to gain control of all objectives.

INSURGENCY is a tactical, team-based first-person shooter for up to 32-plus players designed for Windows®PC, Mac OS X (and later on Linux), using Valve’s Source Engine and distributed through the Steam platform. If the name INSURGENCY sounds familiar, that’s because it’s based on the popular total conversion for Half-Life 2 – Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat – that saw more than a million free downloads and was awarded the ModDB “Player’s Choice Mod of the Year” in 2007.
