From the Press Release
Students and professionals from around the country will gather in Dallas Oct. 26-27 for the inaugural LeadingAge HackFest, 2 days of brainstorming, developing, and marketing a technology-driven tool aimed at improving the lives of older adults and their families. Sponsored by Ziegler, the event is designed to bring the tech community together with the field of aging services to solve problems related to aging and long-term care.

Each team of 4-6 participants will include a developer, a designer, a social science/healthcare professional, and a marketing/business professional. A member of the aging-services community will serve as a team coach. Unique to this hackfest is the LCS Council of Elders, a group of older adults who will serve as subject-matter experts to mentor and guide the participants. Judges will evaluate entries on originality, on usability, on feasibility, on design relevance, and on being ‘most developed’ by the end of the session. First-place will win $5,000, and two runners-up will earn $2,000. A people’s choice winner will get $1,000 and a Nexus 7 tablet. All cash prizes are donated by The Asbury Group.
