Doodle Jump Adventures (Video Game Review)

Doodle Jump is a simple game that first made its debut for mobile devices and has since grown in popularity due to its addictive gameplay. Now the game makes the jump to Nintendo 3DS with Doodle Jump Adventures. The winning formula transfers over to the 3DS and contains all the same fun features that you loved from console and mobile versions.

The addictive platformer has you controlling a four legged character called the "Doodler" across a wide variety of levels. The game employs the same simple mechanics that you become accustomed to in the mobile version that allow you to jump across various platforms which increase in difficulty as the game continues on. Players will utilize the Nintendo 3DS's gyroscope to move the character, which is quite efficient but can quickly become tiresome. If you are unfamiliar with the gyroscope, you basically move the system in the direction you want to go and your character moves that way, alongside the game's automatic jumping feature.

Doodle Jump Adventures contains simple mechanics that literally allow anyone to pick up and play. Players will tap the screen on occasion to shoot enemies or obstructions while moving higher and higher up the infinitely scrolling screen. The core gameplay will have players trying to jump as high as doodley possible in order to increase their score with the game ending if you miss a jump and fall to your doom. Players can also use a wide variety of items called power-ups to progress further into the game with more ease. The obstacles that the Doodler will have to avoid include cannons, black holes and more. Perfecting your timing is crucial in Doodle Jump Adventures because missing a platform or getting hit means you will have to start over.

Doodle Jump Adventures features two modes: Endless and Adventure. Endless mode will provide players with the classic experience of never-ending fun while Adventure mode takes players across 48 levels with epic new boss fights and fun power-ups like jet packs and spring shoes. Doodle Jump Adventures packs enough variety into its challenging levels to keep you entertained for hours as you bounce the Doodler toward their goal while avoiding obstacles and taking down the various bosses. Players will also collect coins scattered throughout each game world alongside hidden keys that can unlock bonus levels which adds a great deal of replayability.

The game features four worlds which contain multiple levels that end with an epic boss fight. After taking down the boss, then players are allowed to move to more challenging worlds that are unlocked. Players must beat Adventure mode before Endless mode can be unlocked. Endless mode will allow you to jump forever and continuously work on your epic high score.

Doodle Jump Adventures features a superb presentation with its colorful, vibrant graphics and great sounds. The story and gameplay utilize simple mechanics that are coupled alongside precise controls for an overall enjoyable experience. While the game contains many positives, there is also the occasional graphical and sound glitch, which can break immersion taking down the fun a bit. The sound going out or items vanishing can be really detrimental to a game of this nature where one bad move can end the game.

CLOSING COMMENTS

In the end, Doodle Jump Adventures is a solid title that is simple to play and addictively entertaining. However, many gamers may find the $29.99 price tag for Doodle Jump Adventures too steep being it contains a lot of the same features from the mobile version that is only $0.99 on the App Store alongside the fact that the game can become repetitive very quickly. While others can justify the price with Doodle Jump Adventures' improved graphics and new-exclusive content which creates hours of endless fun. For parents, on the other hand, Doodle Jump Adventures is a great stocking stuffer for your small gamer this holiday season since it can be easily picked up and enjoyed! While Doodle Jump Adventures isn’t for everyone, it is definitely a title worth checking out if you enjoy nonstop fun on your 3DS.

Doodle Jump Adventures is now available from all major retailers for the MSRP of $29.99 and can be purchased for Nintendo 3DS. Doodle Jump Adventures is rated E for Everyone. For more information on Doodle Jump Adventures, check out the official Doodle Jump Adventures website.
