From the Press Release
Plain Vanilla Games announces today the launch of QuizUp, the biggest trivia game in the world, for iPhone. With over 100,000 trivia questions in close to 300 categories, QuizUp will not only be the single biggest trivia game in the world, but also the first to blend human interaction between friends and strangers with gameplay in a seamless way through one-to-one messaging, discussion boards, and unique leaderboards that are hyperlocal (by city, state and country).

On QuizUp, players have an unlimited selection of trivia categories to play either with a friend, strangers from around the world, or asynchronously. Players can issue direct challenges to their friends, which are automatically populated in QuizUp if the player connects his/her Facebook, or allow QuizUp to match them up with the perfect opponent. Once the game has started, players have seven rounds, lasting ten seconds each, to best their opponent in the topic that was selected. At the end of each game, players receive a summary of their gameplay, which breaks down the match score, finish bonus, victory bonus, and power-up bonus, adding up to the total XP gained at that level.

As players advance through levels in each topic and category on QuizUp, they earn and unlock badges and achievements that award them with titles such as: Best in City, State and Country. By passing level 10 in any category will unlock titles that players can then add to their profiles such as Dough Boy (Level 10 in Logos), Car Zar (Level 10 in Cars), or Nu-Metal fan (Level 10 in 2000’s Music). These achievements, along with gameplay history, favorite topics, and badges earned, are displayed in a beautifully designed profile for each user, allowing their gameplay to illustrate their personal interests to friends and other QuizUp players.

“Gaming is a natural way for people to connect -- people like to play games together, challenge each other, and learn more about one another,” says Thor Fridriksson, founder and CEO of Plain Vanilla Games. “Through interest-based games like trivia, players are enjoying the game while also connecting with a friend or a fellow-fan without even knowing it. Our goal with QuizUp was to bring trivia fans the biggest, most addictive, trivia game that ever existed, with categories that span the interest spectrum. QuizUp, truly is, a game for everyone.”

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...

Step Back in Time at Ole Towne Café in Ardmore

If you’ve ever wished you could step into your grandma’s kitchen and smell fresh biscuits baking while bacon sizzles in the skillet, Ole Towne Café in Ardmore, Alabama, is the next best thing. Tucked along Main Street, this little diner doesn’t just serve food—it serves nostalgia. Walking in, you’re greeted with that small-town charm you just can’t fake. The walls are lined with country décor, the coffee flows like a friendly neighbor’s gossip, and everyone seems to know everyone else. Even if you’re new in town, you’ll feel like family after your first cup of coffee. The menu is straight out of a Southern comfort cookbook. The catfish plates are fried to crispy perfection, the hamburger steaks come smothered in gravy that tastes like Sunday supper, and the breakfast plates are legendary—big fluffy pancakes, biscuits as big as your hand, and hash browns that come golden and crispy.
