Ubisoft Removes Online Passes from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and All Future Releases
Ubisoft has announced all future titles released from the developer and publisher will no longer carry online pass requirements. The recently released Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag can now be played online by all players with Uplay Passports available to download for free now. Players that purchased the online pass for the game can contact Ubisoft support to learn how to get a compensatory return on their purchase. The decision to remove online passes from all future releases was based on player feedback to deliver the best gaming experience for fans and comes shortly after another major publisher, EA, announced a similar policy. "The Uplay Passport program was initiated as a means of giving customers full access and support for online multiplayer and features, along with exclusive content, bonuses, and rewards," Ubisoft said in a statement.
"However, games today are blurring the line between offline and online, between what is 'single-player' and what is 'multiplayer,'" the statement continues. "Based on that and on the feedback we received from you, we recognized that Passport is no longer the best approach for ensuring that all our customers have the best possible experience with all facets of our games."
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is now available from all major retailers for the MSRP of $59.99 and can be purchased for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii U & PC. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is rated M by the ESRB for Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Use of Alcohol & Violence.
