IndieCade East Adds New Keynote Speaker Rami Ismail To The Lineup

IndieCade has announced a new keynote speaker for IndieCade East with Rami Ismail from Vlambeer. Those interested in attending IndieCade East can head to the Museum of the Moving Image in New York on February 14th until the 16th. Are you ready to learn more about the event? Read on.

From the Press Release
IndieCade, the International Festival of Independent Games, today announced Rami Ismail from Vlambeer (Ridiculous Fishing, Luftrauser) is the latest confirmed keynote speaker at IndieCade East, the east coast edition of the nation’s premier independent video game festival. IndieCade East will be held at Museum of the Moving Image in New York, February 14–16, 2014.

Rami joins fellow game designer Bennett Foddy (QWOP) and Auriea Harvey, co-founder of Tale of Tales (The Path) as keynote speakers at IndieCade East. Attendees will have the opportunity to get hands-on experience with exciting and innovative new work, network with industry luminaries such as Rami, Auriea and Bennett and other talented artists, developers, storytellers, publishers and more. In addition, the festival conference and workshops allow participants to listen and engage in important, relevant and sometimes controversial discussions, learn about best practices as well as insights on game design and practical tools to give aspiring game-makers valuable takeaways. The fun doesn’t stop there – with the weekend-long eSports showcase and the always popular Night Games, IndieCade East is sure to once again unveil talent and works that will no doubt define the next-generation of entertainment.

Rami Ismail co-founded Dutch indie studio Vlambeer in 2010 with Jan Willem Nijman. The terrifyingly prolific studio has cranked out a succession of superbly tuned indie action games, like Super Crate Box, GUN GODZ, Luftrauser, and Nuclear Throne. After their 2010 fishing-plus-guns game Radical Fishing was shamelessly cloned, Vlambeer came roaring back with an addictive and surprisingly poignant re-imagining of the game, as 2013's Ridiculous Fishing. Ridiculous Fishing went on to earn spots on countless "Best Of" lists, and honors from Apple and others.

“We are honored to have Rami Ismail join our already excellent lineup of keynote speakers at IndieCade East,” said Matt Parker, Chair for IndieCade East. “Vlambeer’s projects represent the extraordinary works of the indie community and we are thrilled to champion and bring greater visibility of such works to the public and in inspiring current and next generation of creators on the possibilities."

"After attending the inaugural event in 2013, I have been looking forward to visiting IndieCade East again this year. The event fostered an amazing sense of community amongst the independent developers attending, and I was impressed by how informative and inspiring the event and the environment were," said Rami Ismail, co-founder of Vlambeer. "We're excited to be back and honored to be part of this amazing and diverse lineup."

Activities at IndieCade East 2014 will include:

  • The Show & Tell showcase (registration available here) giving aspiring game developers the chance to demo their latest creations to an audience of gamemakers and game fans
  • A wide array of video games from dozens of independent game developers, including award-winning selections from the IndieCade Festival 2013, in the exhibition Indie Essentials: 25 Must-Play Video Games, on view at the Museum through March 2, 2014
  • An all-weekend eSports tournament, with the final list of games to be announced soon
  • Night Games-an evening of physical and large-scale games-on Saturday, February 15
  • Demos from exhibitors including PlayStation®4, PlayStation®Vita, Oculus Rift, and Facebook
