Forever|NOT, a mobile app that enables people to anonymously bet on the relationship status of their friends and favorite celebrities just launched in the App Store. The app allows you to share feedback with your friends and favorite celebrities through bets for and against their relationships, browse their recent photos and see the latest headlines.
Forever|NOT converges all of the popular notions of social gambling, anonymous messaging, entertainment and gaming all in one well designed and easy to navigate app. There are a growing number of mobile and web applications that are based on the notion of anonymity. Private social networks such as Snapchat and Whisper are getting attention (and thus high valuations from investors) in the market at a time when large social networks such as Facebook are trying to grow through making social content more public.
It was around February of this year when one of my female friends on campus told me about this new relationship betting app.
“It’s called Forever|NOT!” she announced. “Isn’t it awesome?!” On the screen was a friend of ours and her new boyfriend. “Can you believe she’s dating him?” she quipped. We were happy for her but judging from the photos of their relationship, also displayed on the app, he seemed nothing more than a rebound. “There’s no way that’s going to last” I replied, and we quickly swiped the photo right to NOT it! Upon seeing their Forever|NOT score it was very clear that we weren’t alone in thinking this. Their F|N relationship score was a 20% and it was collected from all of her friends.
It would be much harder to tell her to her face what we really think, so this app makes it easy to give feedback to friends without their awkward responses or defenses. Let’s face it; singles spend many hours talking about who they’re dating, who they want to date or why they’re still single. If they’re not talking about themselves, they’re talking about others. We always have an opinion on everyone’s relationship. Whether it’s going to last: Forever or NOT. Most of us think we are always right so this app lets you track your predictions and bet for or against your friends to increase your leaderboard status! Brag away with data to prove it!
Of course, some couples will always have great ratings while those, who fight in public, will be getting bombed on the app. Maybe they’ll think twice before having another public argument?! Awkward! Better yet, maybe they’ll take the feedback and finally move on. Who knows? Forever|NOT might actually help alert bad couples of their dysfunctional relationships by giving them real time feedback from their friends and fans. It’s a great tool.
Does anyone have a just reason why this couple cannot lawfully be joined together in matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace?
Who hasn’t attended a wedding where you’re sitting on your hands trying to keep them down when that priest asks the “any objections” question?! Let’s face it; it’s tough to tell your best pal that the girl he is dating is no good for him. So it’s nearly impossible to say that about his fiancee…
We want to support our friends and lend them advice but often we are reluctant to tell them the hard truth. I tried the honest route once when I told my best friend that her boyfriend had a wandering eye. She was so upset by my observation that she blacklisted me from her subsequent engagement party invitations. Of course, I got the “I told you so” moment when she walked in on him cheating on her with his coworker, but our friendship has still never recovered.
