New App Puts The Gray Seasons Documentary Film At Your Fingertips

Robert T. Herrera's The Gray Seasons documentary is now available at your fingertips on smart phones, tablets, TV and PC. Stream the film today On Demand with the new app! Read on to learn more.

From the Press Release
After screening at over a dozen film festivals and spending a year and a half playing On Demand on over 200 cable providers, documentary filmmaker Robert T. Herrera’s emotional college basketball tale – The Gray Seasons - is embracing alternative distribution to the fullest extent. Whether film fans like to stream movies through their TV, their computer, smart phone, tablet or just prefer the traditional route of popping in a dvd… these filmmakers have it covered.

The filmmakers are debuting an innovative application that makes virtually any aspect of the movie available at your fingertips. The app, created by St. Louis based Candy Lab, gives users the ability to download & watch the film on their device, buy the dvd, read the blog, browse film photos, send the filmmakers an email, connect with them directly via Facebook or stream the entire soundtrack for FREE. “People always comment on and ask about it, so I figured why not provide the entire soundtrack to everyone,” commented director/producer Herrera. The film features music composed, produced and performed by Austin musician and frequent collaborator, John Kelley. For Herrera, the app was an interesting and fun way to spread the film and its related content easily and concisely. It is available in app stores or through the QR code on their website.

The Gray Seasons journey continues as its Amazon.com release is in the works along with other streaming platforms to be announced. For traditionalists, the film can be purchased or rented online through Vimeo On Demand and the dvd is available through their website.

The documentary also has the honor of being featured as part of the Missouri History Museum’s 250 in 250 exhibit with a screening in their Lee Auditorium on May 22nd as part of St. Louis’ 250th birthday celebration.

The Gray Seasons isn’t a film just for athletes…film lovers of all genres will find something to root for in this dramatic cinematic journey. Critics have called this film a “rival to the classic “Hoop Dreams” and a “brutally honest” story that is “touching,” “compelling,” and “inspiring.”

This provocative and dynamic story focuses on Saint Louis University women’s basketball, a longstanding Division I program with a lack of tradition and success. Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds of overcoming the losing culture of the program, in 2006 Shimmy Gray-Miller, a young, dynamic coach, is brought in to turn things around. She embarks on her first head-coaching position and is armed with her first class of determined recruits. Driven to change the trajectory of the basketball program, the team sets their sights on success, attempting to pull SLU from its last place conference standings to a conference contender.

“The Gray Seasons” won Best Editing-Feature at the St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase and took an Honorable Mention at the LA Art House Film Festival.

Herrera has been busy collaborating on both narrative and documentary films as well as commercial work for a wide variety of clients.
