Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Video Game Review)

Nintendo is monkeying around once again with one of the most beloved video game characters in the history of gaming and has brought Donkey Kong to next-gen consoles. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze delivers intense, action-packed gameplay and delivers the same fun-loving characters that the platforming series is known for. One thing gamers seem to love is reboots and sequels of their favorite series and they won't be disappointed with the new Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a beautiful game that takes full advantage of the Wii U's capabilities with its intricate HD visuals and perfectly rendered environments. It is without doubt that Tropical Freeze is nice to look at, but some gamers may find that it is a whole different story when it comes the game's difficulty, since the title is extremely hard. Even the most hardcore Donkey Kong fans will be looking away from the screen in horror as they fall once again into one of the game's dark, bottomless pits. While Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze may test your skills with its difficulty, players will find that almost everything else in the game is near perfect from its visuals and soundtrack to its addictively fun gameplay.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze delivers all of the humor and action that the classic game was known for in the early 80's with something to love for new and old players alike. Players will roll, swing, swim and float their way through over six worlds while collecting a slew of items from coins to hearts. With over 40 levels to explore, gamers will find countless hours of entertainment and replayability.

The game starts out with Donkey Kong's birthday celebration being ruined by some pesky Snowmads where he has to team up with Cranky King, Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong to take back his territory. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze features a solid storyline with beautiful animations that take players across a wide variety of environments that includes forests, mountains and beautiful savannahs. The game features plenty of wonderful surprises on every level that will keep gameplay feeling fresh and exciting. The best part of the game is exploring and swimming offers up additional fun as you explore the waters while swimming past treacherous moments with sharks and more.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will require some extensive planning and skillful strategy to take on the game's maddening difficult bosses with one wrong move through each level resulting in your untimely demise. However, players can use the many gold coins collected through each level to head over to Funky Kong's establishment to prepare for the battles ahead by purchasing balloons, hearts, barrels and more.

The shining moments of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze are in its multiplayer segments as another player steps into the role of your petite monkey partner. Players will combine their skills and talents to progress through each level for some insanely fun gameplay sessions which is ultimately a barrel of laughs. While Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze may suffer from its extreme difficulty level when flying solo--everything seems to get a little easier with a partner in the game's insanely addicting multiplayer mode. The title also takes little advantage of the Wii U's interactive pad, which was sad to see, since this would have added a whole new level of immersiveness to the game. In the end, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is exactly what fans of the series has been waiting for and manages to offer up beautiful visuals and colorful characters with great gameplay for an overall satisfying experience.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is now available from all major retailers for the MSRP of $59.99 and can be purchased for the Nintendo Wii U. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more information on the game, check out the official Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze website.

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...

Step Back in Time at Ole Towne Café in Ardmore

If you’ve ever wished you could step into your grandma’s kitchen and smell fresh biscuits baking while bacon sizzles in the skillet, Ole Towne Café in Ardmore, Alabama, is the next best thing. Tucked along Main Street, this little diner doesn’t just serve food—it serves nostalgia. Walking in, you’re greeted with that small-town charm you just can’t fake. Even if you’re new in town, you’ll feel like family after your first cup of coffee. The menu is straight out of a Southern comfort cookbook. The catfish plates are fried to crispy perfection, the hamburger steaks come smothered in gravy that tastes like Sunday supper, and the breakfast plates are legendary—big fluffy pancakes, biscuits as big as your hand, and hash browns that come golden and crispy.
