Noah: The Official Movie Novelization (Book Review)

Noah is a new film starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connolly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins in theaters now. The film has stirred up its share of controversy with a storyline and film based loosely on the Noah's Ark tale from the Bible. With Titan Books new release of Noah: The Official Movie Novelization, fans can learn more about the film before heading to theaters to watch it with friends and family.

The novelization comes from author Mark Morris and follows closely to the screenplay and full length film, though there are some noticeable differences between the different works. Noah: The Official Movie Novelization lasts for a little over 300 pages, but it's an exciting read that can be purchased for less than the price of a movie ticket depending on where you live, and it's worth reading even if you've already seen the film and enjoyed it.

Most everyone knows the biblical tale of Noah and his ark. An aged man must gather his family and two of every kind of animal to go on-board a massive ship and ride out a storm that will flood the entire world. The novelization and film change some key elements of the story around though. Noah receives his vision of the horrible event with no connection ever being established between the man of faith and God, though viewers could consider the vision a message from an all powerful being. The story also changes to show the flood was caused by pollution caused by mankind's factories, mining techniques and other terrible decisions. There are numerous other changes, but fans should know going in that the story will only loosely resemble the tale from the Bible, so anyone looking for the story to be the exactly the same likely won't enjoy the book or film.

One thing Noah: The Official Movie Novelization and the motion picture do well is establishing additional characters beyond the title character. Fans will learn about the different member's of Noah's family including his son, Shem in the book and film as well as an interesting character named Ila played by Emma Watson. Watson plays the character great in the film, and though she isn't featured as much in the book as we'd like, she's still one of the most entertaining while she is around. Of course, Noah takes up the largest part of the book as he faces many of the problems associated with his vision including trying to decide if he is crazy or not, convincing his family of what needs to be done and facing the dangers of capturing so many animals and placing them on the ark.

Noah: The Official Movie Novelization isn't too long, so even casual readers can pick up the book and enjoy it. Author Mark Morris does an excellent job of making the characters and environments of the time come across as authentic when reading the book, but the language used in the book isn't too ancient or difficult to understand. Noah: The Official Movie Novelization may not completely follow the storyline from the Bible, but it's a good read and movie, and fans would be doing themselves a favor to check out both at their local book retailer and in theaters right now.

Noah: The Official Movie Novelization is now available from most major retailers from Titan Books and can be purchased for $7.99. For more information on Noah: The Official Movie Novelization, check out the official Titan Books website
