Momocon, Alabama Phoenix Festival and Dragon Con: Events to Attend in the Southeast in 2014

Spring has arrived and with Summer quickly approaching, it's time to start planning vacation trips and ideas for 2014. Luckily, there are plenty of great comic and gaming conventions coming to a town near you this year, and this article will detail three of the best events for the Southeastern parts of the United States in the coming months. Momocon, Alabama Phoenix Festival and Dragon Con are easily among the three best conventions coming to any part of the country this year with stacked guest lists and plenty of great panels, contests and other events planned for each convention. Read on to learn why you won't want to miss these three shows in 2014!

Momocon (May 23-25, 2014)
Momocon will be invading Atlanta, Georgia and the Peachtree Center for the weekend of May 23-25, 2014. The convention has already scheduled numerous events for some of the most unique entertainment that can be found anywhere. Momocon will include several video game tournaments including the hit fighting game Skullgirls, Pokemon, Just Dance, Rock Band and more, and if competitive gaming isn't your thing, the convention will also play host to a massive LAN party for the games DOTA 2, League of Legends and Smite, or fans can head to the special arcade hosted by the Southern-Fried Gameroom Expo to play one of twenty different classic titles from Pac-Man to NFL Blitz. Additionally, There will be tabletop game sessions, special workshops where attendees can learn some neat martial arts moves and even some musical performances with the official Momocon Rave and the Disney Karaoke Contest.

Surprisingly, the stacked event card for Momocon isn't even the best part of the convention. The guest list for Momocon will include a massive lineup of guests from video games, film, anime, comics and all other forms of geek culture under one roof. Gamers will be interested in meeting stars such as the man with a million voices, Troy Baker, and his co-star in the hit game The Last of Us, Ashley Johnson. There will also be other great guests for video game fans at the event including IGN's Greg Miller and developers Ed Fries and Ke Jiang. 90s kids will receive a rush of nostalgia from the likes of Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain & Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius) and Tress MacNeille (Tiny Toon Adventures). Cosplayers will be interested in meeting the likes of Mark Zoran from Razorfly Studios, Bear, Catherine Lewis, Lee "fev" Camara, Abby ADOS Cosplay, Jennifer Barclay and Katie George, just to name a few of the additional guests from the convention. Momocon is set to be a great event that fans will want to attend this May.

Alabama Phoenix Festival (May 30-June 1, 2014)
"The Phoenix Will Rise" in Birmingham, Alabama for the Alabama Phoenix Festival at the end of May. The Sheraton Birmingham Hotel will play host to the event that includes plenty of talented guests including artists such as Dan Schoening, Tom Briscoe, Betsy Brock and Johnathon Brock, authors that including Christina Barber, Kevin Cain and Ashley Chappell and actors Jim O'Rear and Daniel Emery Taylor. The event will feature well over 50 different guests in total, so fans are sure to find several different celebrities they'd like to meet and talk with at the Alabama Phoenix Festival.

Additionally, the Alabama Phoenix Festival will feature over ten special events during the convention weekend. There are sure to be plenty of parties and contests at the event including most notably the Masquerade and Costume Contest on Saturday, where last year, the contest featured a massive showing of over 50 different contestants. Paranormal fans will have a chance to enjoy at least two special events with the Oak Hill Ghost Hunt that will feature many of the paranormal guests stars from the event, and there will also be a special screening of the all-time great film Ghostbusters at the Alabama Phoenix Festival as well. Fans may also be interested in learning to make their own chain mail in a special workshop, finding some cool souvenirs from the event in the Charity Auction or traveling through time and space in a replica T.A.R.D.I.S. Alabama Phoenix Festival should be an extrodinary weekend that fans will not want to miss at the end of May.

Dragon Con (August 29-September 1, 2014)
Dragon Con is the third and final event we'd like to spotlight for readers. The event will also head to Atlanta, Georgia but to the Hyatt Regency Atlanta for the weekend of August 29-September 1, 2014. The guest list is sure to change many times before the start of the event in late August, but there are already several noteworthy guests scheduled for the event including the original Incredible Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, Sam Huntington and Kristen Hager from Syfy's Being Human, voice actors Erin Fitzgerald, Caitlin Glass and Kyle Hebert, and artists Dave Johnson and Mike Grell. Past Dragon Con events have included even more star studded guests, so look for more big name guests to be added to the list, as we get closer to August 2014.

What we know for sure about Dragon Con 2014 is the convention will host plenty of great events to keep fans entertained for the entirety of the weekend. Dragon Con is possibly the only convention that throws its own parade each year, and Dragon Con 2014's Parade is promised to be bigger and better than ever. Sports fans will be interested in the D.C. Wrestling show scheduled for the convention weekend as well as Dragon Con Night at Turner Field during an Atlanta Braves game near the convention center. Fans can also choose to attend puppet shows, the Dragon Con Burlesque, award banquets, live performances and more that will keep the convention center rocking all weekend long. Plan your trip to Dragon Con 2014 now, and make sure to check out all of these great events in Summer 2014!
