Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit to Celebrate Entrepreneurial and Academic Accomplishments for the Area

The Tennessee Valley Corridor National Summit is scheduled to take place June 4-5, 2014 at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga campus. The event will celebrate accomplishments in the entrepreneurial and academic fields in the five-state area, and the event will be hosted by Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and UTC Chancellor Dr. Steven Angle. Featured speakers include Angle, Dr. Joe DePietro, president of the University of Tennessee; Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle; Dr. Thom Mason, director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory; Jim Haynes, CEO of Consolidated Nuclear Security, the new management contractor of Oak Ridge’s Y-12 National Security Complex; Mitch Patel president /CEO of Vision Hospitality Group; Todd May, Program Manager, Space Launch Systems at NASA; several members of the TVC’s congressional delegation and numerous business, high-tech, community and academic leaders from throughout the region.

TVC Board Chair Gerald Boyd, who is the former Department of Energy Oak Ridge Site Manager, said, “At this year’s Summit we will remind people why we call ourselves a science and technology corridor in the first place.”

Sessions will highlight important national assets in Oak Ridge and Huntsville, AL, with a focus on the immense science and technology resources at the Department of Energy’s facilities in Oak Ridge and the story of Huntsville’s emergence as one of America’s most important centers for national security, space and economic development. There will be a session focused on the host community, Chattanooga, which will highlight Chattanooga’s journey from being branded as “America’s dirtiest city” to an entrepreneurial and manufacturing powerhouse. There will also be a session dedicated to collaboration between academic institutions and venture development organizations to support entrepreneurial efforts throughout the region.
