Art in Video Games Los Angeles Documentary Announced by MOCAtv

MOCAtv has announced the Art in Video Games Los Angeles documentary series. The new work will span 13 parts and debut on June 18, 2014. The show will feature veterans in the industry such as Tracy Fullerton, Richard Lemarchand, Sam Roberts and Stephanie Barish while looking at some of the upcoming video game artists in the industry. More details follow.

"Whilst the series is by no means comprehensive, MOCAtv is thrilled to be shining a light on this amazing local community of academics, game makers and thinkers. Art in Video Games Los Angeles captures the emerging video game culture and we hope to continue documenting this community over time,” said Emma Reeves, MOCAtv’s Creative Director.

With schools like USC and UCLA pioneering efforts to promote the exploration of interactive media, video games attract creative-risk takers that create and participate in a games community very different from anywhere else in the world. As a contemporary art capital, Los Angeles provides a landscape that encourages collaboration among those who want to break away from tradition and set them apart from the games created by major studios and publishers. This series captures the emerging video game culture in Los Angeles, and was created in collaboration with consultant curator Sarah Brin. Art In Video Games Los Angeles was produced by Prologue Pictures with executive producers Alexander Dervin and Kurt Mattila.

Debuting alongside Art in Video Games Los Angeles is the animated gif of the MOCAtv logo designed by Keita Takahashi. The new animated gif is inspired by Takahashi’s most recent endeavor, which is being developed at San Francisco-based game studio Funomena. News of the project was announced at the inaugural alternative video game press conference HORIZON, presented by games culture website, Venus Patrol at The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles in 2013.
