EA is a company that many gamers wouldn't rank among their favorite video game publishers in the industry, and the company didn't do itself any favors with the buggy launch of Battlefield 4 last year, but EA is doing everything in its power to right those wrongs with the upcoming release of Battlefield: Hardline. The game will take a completely different approach to the first-person shooter genre with cops vs criminals themes that features amazing heist scenarios and plenty of exciting vehicle chases. The game is currently available in closed beta, and fans can sign-up at the official Battlefield: Hardline website to test out the game's multiplayer on PlayStation 4 and PC today. EA was present at E3 2014 and had the new multiplayer beta ready for media to go hands-on with the current multiplayer build of the game.
Battlefield: Hardline will feature several different multiplayer modes at launch, but at E3 2014, we spent most of our time with the Blood Money game mode. In this mode, the two opposing teams fight over control of money located near the middle of the map with the simple objective of taking the money back to their team's armored truck. The mode could easily be compared to a neutral version of Capture the Flag, and it was pretty fun with plenty of guns, zip lines and other new items ready to be used to help win the match. As with the most recent entries to the Battlefield series, Battlefield: Hardline multiplayer included destructible environments and really impressive graphics that looked fantastic while running on next generation console settings.
EA also showed off a brand new gameplay trailer for Battlefield: Hardline at the event. The multiplayer match was all about the criminal team finding and securing loot in a map while the police force attempted to stop the entire enemy team. The heavily armed criminals had an advantage with shoot to kill mentality and some powerful firearms ready to mow down any cops in sight. Cops had the more unique weapons and equipment though including cop cars, armored trucks, riot shields, tasers, zip lines and more that could help them gain an advantage over the crooks. It was really interesting to watch the match unfold and see gameplay from different characters' perspectives. In the end, justice prevailed with a nice take down and arrest made by the police force.
Not all Battlefield fans seem to be excited for the release of Battlefield: Hardline, but the team behind the game is trying something very bold and very different for the first-person shooter genre that deserves some recognition. Of course, a game can be as unique as it wants, but at the end of the day, it needs to play well and offer good reasons for players to spend time on the game. Battlefield: Hardline looks awesome and plays really well in person too. If the early multiplayer beta for the game is any indication of how the final product will turn out, EA should have another hit on the way for fans to enjoy this holiday season.
Battlefield: Hardline is now available for preorder from most major retailers for the MSRP of $59.99 and is scheduled to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on October 21, 2014. Battlefield: Hardline is not yet rated. For more information on the game, check out the official Battlefield: Hardline website.
