Black Gold Online (E3 2014 Preview)

Black Gold Online is an upcoming MMORPG from Snail Games that combines the fantasy and steampunk genres to create a unique gaming experience unlike any other. Players will find the usual MMORPG mission style of go to said place, complete an objective and gather some loot in Black Gold Online, but there are some other features that help the game set itself apart from others in the same gaming genre. Arena battles, Greed Chambers and plenty of playable character classes and races are only a few concepts that help keep the game feeling fresh. Snail Games was available at E3 2014 to show off some new content for the game, and we left feeling like MMORPG fans would really enjoy the new title when it hits open beta on June 20, 2014.  BioGamer Girl was able to go hands-on with the game and talk about all the great aspects of Black Gold Online in depth with the wonderful team at Snail Games while at E3 2014. One of the most important aspects to us was the player's ability to jump into the game with little or no experience with MMORPGs and that the game was open to all levels of gamers from beginner to hardcore. The Snail Games team was able to thoroughly discuss all of the fantastic elements of gameplay in Black Gold Online with the title offering an overall enjoyable experience that can be easily picked by anyone.

Players begin Black Gold Online by creating a character from one of 6 races and 12 distinct classes. The character variety is increased exponentially by the amount of different clothing items and other features available to players in the game. Getting around the world featured in Black Gold Online will typically require a mount to make things easier. Mounts in the game include anything from horses and elephants to large bikes and cars. Some of the bizarre mechanical mounts look pretty funny, but including mounts makes traveling around in the game much less tedious and saves players a lot of time when traveling to a new location. Characters can also learn a profession after reaching a certain level that allows for the creation of new items and differentiates one character from another even further.


Black Gold Online sends players to a world with two factions that each rely heavily on technology and ancient lore respectively. The world is on the brink of war, and players will find battles awaiting around every corner. The game will feature varied locations including anything from the frozen wastelands to deserts, both of which was featured in the E3 2014 demo. The demo also showed off some cool features including how mounts will be used in battle and a couple of different character classes, though only four will be available in the open beta. Additionally, the team discussed some of the features that will be included in the final version of the game such as the Chambers of Greed that will have players battling against enemies and other players in search of fantastic look, Outbreaks that make dynamic events appear that will draw in many different players for a single objective, the Arena that allows players to battle each other, Achievements and much more.



Black Gold Online features solid MMORPG gameplay with enough fun ideas to give players reasons to be excited for the game. The game is currently available for preorder in a retail version that comes packed with plenty of additional in-game currency and content, or players can download the game for free online. We'd like to see how the game's free-to-play model works in the final version, but assuming the game doesn't attempt to nickel and dime players in order to enjoy the game, it should be very entertaining. An online Auction House will also be integrated to allow players to purchase in-game items in different ways. In the short time with the game, we found that the game's solid presentation, beautiful visuals, entertaining gameplay and unique writing pushed the boundaries of the typical MMORPG giving players a game experience unlike any other.
