Fable Legends (E3 2014 Hands-On Preview)

Fable Legends was one of the most surprising announcements out of E3 2014. The new game was first revealed during the Microsoft Press Conference, and media members in attendance got a chance to try out the newest multiplayer demo available for the game. The title will feature 4 vs 1 combat with the four players taking up arms with classic hero design the series has always been known for, while a fifth player will play as the villain and set traps, enemy spawn points and even control some of the most heavy hitting monsters all in an effort to stop the progress of the other four players. It's a unique concept for the Fable series and one that will have Xbox One owners excited to try out the upcoming exclusive this holiday season.

The Fable series traditionally features a solo RPG gaming experience that also supports up to one other player in cooperative matches, but Fable Legends changes the formula with its exciting 4 vs 1 combat scenarios. The game will still feature an entertaining and humorous trip to Albion. The new plot is set 400 years before the original Fable and finds four would be heroes teaming up to find an ancient artifact known as the moon on the stick. The prequel tale is set before the founding of the Heroes Guild, so there is actually quite a big difference in the setting of the new game and what players have become accustomed to over the years.

Fable Legends looks very impressive with vastly improved graphics on Xbox One over previous releases. Improved character models and lighting help highlight the world of Albion and will make players want to spend time exploring the world in search of treasure and adventure. Four players will team up to tackle the challenges laid out before them, only the enemies, traps and other hazards aren't laid out by the developers at Lionhead Studios. A fifth player will control everything that happens on the side of the antagonists, which will go a long way in making each new mission randomized and feeling different from another playthrough. One thing that hasn't changed from previous Fable games is how much more fun it is to be bad rather than good in Fable Legends.

Fable Legends is shaping up to be one of the best Xbox One exclusives to arrive in the next year. Fans interested in the upcoming game can currently sign-up on the official Fable Legends website for a multiplayer beta expected to begin this Fall. Lionhead seems to have nailed the concept of cooperative gameplay, and playing as the bad guy is tremendous fun and as simple as using controller face buttons to control enemies and using triggers to initiate special attacks on heroes. If the community embraces the new release the way we believe it will, then Fable Legends could end up being the best new game that was announced in all of E3 2014.

Fable Legends is now available for preorder from most major retailers for the MSRP of $59.99 and is scheduled to release exclusively for Xbox One in Fall 2014. Fable Legends is not yet rated. For more information on the game, check out the official Fable Legends website.
