Skylanders Trap Team (E3 2014 Preview)

Skylanders Trap Team will be the fourth release in the acclaimed series from developer Toys for Bob and publisher Activision. The new game will be compatible with previously released features and come with plenty of new figures to use in the game at release in October and post launch. With each new release for the series, the Skylanders video games have introduced one important new feature. This time around, fans will be allowed to fight against enemies, trap them and use them in future battles along with the toys they already own. The new feature is a really cool one that allows fans of the series to add all new monsters to their roster of playable characters while also adding a cool new way to unlock new Skylanders.

We were lucky enough to see Skylanders Trap Team in action at E3 2014. The game boasts some new features for the franchise including the ability to capture enemies to use in battles later in the game. This works by introducing traps as the new figures for Skylanders Trap Team that will capture the enemies once defeated. The really neat feature is the built-in speaker that allows the villains to yell out at fans of the series as if they characters are actually inside of the figure. The team behind the game showed us how these monsters will primarily be featured in boss battles, so that players would actually have to perform well in the game to earn the new unlocks. It was also explained that plenty of other new figures will be released at launch that will expand the roster of playable Skylanders characters to an even greater number.

Fans of the Skylanders series should have no trouble getting back in the swing of things in Skylanders Trap Team. The game allows players to enjoy the game with all of the classic Skylanders figures and will once again increase the level cap to allow longtime fans to get use out of all of the figures they've purchased so far. There are some new puzzles, hats and similar content coming to the new title as well, so fans will have plenty of reasons to pick up a copy of Skylanders Trap Team and learn what the new release is all about. The game seems like it will be a ton of fun, and we personally can't wait for the full release to arrive later this year.

The version of Skylanders Trap Team we were able to test out was running on PlayStation 4. The additional year of development for next generation consoles definitely helped the team behind the game add some extra polish to the game, since, even in these early stages of development, Skylanders Trap Team looked to easily be the best looking release in the series. The new feature of trapping characters to use in battle is a really neat addition to the game as well. Skylanders Trap Team releases on October 5, 2014, and fans will find themselves surprised at how much the new game has improved when compared with last year's release.
