Deponia: The Complete Journey (Video Game Review)

Daedalic Entertainment has released Deponia: The Complete Journey which contains three games: Deponia, Chaos on Deponia, and Goodbye Deponia. Gamers who have not experienced any of the great titles in the awarding-winning series will finally be able to complete the entire journey through one complete collection. Even if you have played all of the games in the series, Deponia: The Complete Journey is still worth picking up because it contains a new graphic quest log, world map, fun commentary from the team, six downloaded songs, and much more.

Deponia: The Complete Journey is an entertaining point-and-click adventure that really redefines the genre with its creative writing and vibrant graphics. The game collection takes place on the planet Deponia which is covered in smelly, nasty trash and all our character Rufus wants to do is escape. Deponia: The Complete Journey features a storyline full of intricate puzzles for players to solve as Rufus tries to leave Deponia in one crazy, failed plan after another.

In Deponia the grass is always greener on the other side and in this case it might actually be true. Rufus wants to leave the awful planet and head for paradise in Elysium. In one of his many attempts to start a new life in the city in the sky, Rufus meets his dream girl, who he accidentally gets stuck on the trash planet with him. Goal is engaged to an awful guy named Cletus (a guy that has a remarkable physical resemblance to Rufus) back on Elysium which adds an interesting twist to the entire story of the Deponia series.

The Deponia series tells the story of our simple protagonist Rufus--who starts out in the first game just wanting to escape the planet-- that eventually evolves into a more complex story of him trying to win the heart of a privileged, rich girl who is totally out of his league. Rufus is a likeable character, who may be unemployed and naive, but endures and overcomes so many hardships that it is hard to look down on him. It is easy to see why Rufus wants to leave Deponia with the many daily challenges he faces and the terrible circumstances around him. Every new plan that Rufus hatches is the "perfect" plan--or so he thinks--but somehow they always fall to pieces and nothing turns out like he thinks. All of the disappointments that Rufus faces can be related to with the everyday challenges that we often face in life and thus we become emotionally connected to the character in a way that has us actually caring what happens to him.

Deponia: The Complete Journey is full of beautifully drawn environments with interactive elements that can be clicked. The interactive elements, however, can be sometimes hard to pick out from the rest of the environment and can be easily overlooked. The puzzle elements in the Deponia series offer an intriguing concept to the gameplay that adds a challenging storyline that will keep you entertained until the very end. Some gamers may find that a few of the puzzles throughout the series can often take a little time to complete which may be frustrating for some while rewarding for others.

In the end, Deponia: The Complete Journey features something everyone can enjoy from its beautiful visuals, great soundtrack, well-written story and characters alongside the challenge and replayability that all of the intricate puzzles and mini-games offer. The story manages to display a comical outlook to a beautiful love story with all the pieces falling together rather perfectly by the time you reach the end. Deponia: The Complete Journey is the perfect way to start the series if you have never played it, because it offers up a complete adventure with added bonus content and features. If you haven't played the Deponia series then your missing out and should add Deponia: The Complete Journey to your to do list today!

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
