Dungeon Defenders Eternity (Video Game Review)

Dungeon Defenders Eternity has been labeled the "Definitive Edition" of one of the most popular downloadable titles to release in recent years. Developer Nom Nom Games released the original Dungeon Defenders three years ago, and the team behind the game has continued showing support for the game since its release with plenty of expansions and other bonus content releasing over the years. Dungeon Defenders Eternity combine the full original game plus all DLC for the game for a low price that makes the title more affordable than ever before. Longtime fans of the series will find a bit of new content with the Moonbase mission, a new boss battle and a new challenge, but this release is aimed at players that have yet to try out the popular downloadable title.

Players won't find much of a storyline featured in Dungeon Defenders Eternity. Like the original game, Dungeon Defenders Eternity focuses heavily on online arena battles against AI controlled enemies against a team of human players. The new game features a massive roster of characters that represent that game's 12 different classes. The stars of the game are young warriors from the fantasy kingdom who have yet to fully unlock their potential, but players will attempt to perfect and hone their skills in battle.

Players can interact in the new release of Dungeon Defenders Eternity by heading online and joining a tavern. It's here where players will rest up between missions, purchase new items and equipment and recruit new players to their team. The taverns can fill up rather quickly and make navigation to the next mission or to certain stores a bit chaotic, but works well enough as a central hub without too many problems.

There are a handful of new changes included in Dungeon Defenders Eternity. Some of the most prominent include revamped graphics that improve performance and make the game look better overall and some new missions, items and other content that gives a few reasons for players that have already played the original game for hours a reason to pick up the new release. The game also comes with new servers that both cut down on the amount of cheaters and hackers seen in online matches while also providing lag free online sessions, new controls for improved gameplay and a new craft system for creating important items for use in missions. Some changes that won't agree with every player are the addition of new consumable items, emotes and a few other items that requires additional currency to purchase in-game as well as changed character classes that means experienced players may need to learn to play the game at a high level all over again.

A lot of what made the original Dungeon Defenders such a great game still remains in Dungeon Defenders Eternity. The game is all about hacking and slashing down waves of enemies to protect a central location. Players will later gain an ability to summon towers and other defensive constructs to assist in controlling lanes of enemies as well. The unique blend of tower defense and action genres has been imitated many times since the release of the original game, but Dungeon Defenders Eternity is still one of the best examples of the game type.

All of the content from the original release has made its way back for the release of Dungeon Defenders Eternity. This includes the game's 12 playable character classes, 12 missions, challenges and much more. Players can still customize their characters with a variety of color and clothing options. Other bonus missions, challenges and related content released after the game's initial release are included as well, so there is a lot of content packed into Dungeon Defenders Eternity for a low price.

The game's improved graphics really do make the game look better and run a lot more smoothly. The biggest change seems to be in the game's maps and environments, so players will enjoy exploring the new missions to see what all has been reworked for the new game. The new control scheme adds a lot to gameplay with improved mobility to make navigating through the game quicker and more enjoyable. The game also features improved user interface to make navigating in-game menus, statistic screens and more a breeze. Other good presentation perks include the game's original soundtrack that helps keep the game entertaining and feeling authentic to the series.

Dungeon Defenders Eternity is a fun title packed with plenty of content. Players that have already enjoyed the original for hours on end over the years may find it difficult to purchase the game again, but there is a decent amount of new content that may sway some players to get the new release as well. For players that have yet to play the game, Dungeon Defenders Eternity packs a ton of content that gives many hours of entertaining gameplay for a low price. The game is online only, so players will want to bring some friends along for the journey or head to the all new community taverns to make new gaming buddies. No matter how you choose to play the game, you're sure to be having fun in Dungeon Defenders Eternity.
