Matt's Chance (Movie Review)

Matt's Chance is a new film starring Edward Furlong that follows a tale of revenge after the title character finds his fiancé in bed with another man. The film is full of dark humor and some surprise acting performances including the likes of Gary Busey, Lee Majors and NFL star Marshawn Lynch. The film has pretty good production overall for an independent film with some nice tracks playing throughout the film and other strong sound design, while the film's visuals aren't quite as impressive. All of this adds up to make the new movie worth a watch and a fun way to spend an afternoon.

Matt's Chance begins with Edward Furlong's character Matt finding his would be wife in bed with another man. The character has already been down on his luck, and the new circumstance really sets him off and looking for revenge. Matt soon finds himself teaming up with a strange collection of friends that include a crazy pawn shop owner, an experienced stripper and even some goons that don't always seem to be completely on Matt's side. Matt isn't the most likeable character in the early parts of the film, but good direction, writing and acting performances allows the character to grow on viewers and eventually have film fans cheering Matt on by the end of the movie.

Matt's Chance has a surprising amount of enjoyable characters on display throughout the entire film. Gary Busey delivers one of his best performances in years as Bill the pawn shop owner, while there are loads of other exciting characters in the film. Marshawn Lynch performs well while going "Beast Mode" in Matt's Chance and Margot Kidder as Mother Mable, who always seems to find herself on the wrong side of a joke the film is attempting to tell.

Matt's Chance clocks in at just over an hour and a half, and fans will have had plenty of laughs by the film's end. There are moments that showcase some cheap special effects and a couple of bad camera angles, but the overall presentation value is still pretty good with some great writing and sound design. There is plenty of character development and good jokes spread across the entire film, and anyone that can enjoy laughing at dark humor will have a good time while watching Matt's Chance. Look for Matt's Chance today on DVD or digital download.

Buffet Bliss or Southern Swing-and-a-Miss? A Bite at Kacey’s in Huntsville

Walk through the doors of Kacey’s Country Cooking in Huntsville and you’re greeted by the comforting smell of fried chicken, collard greens, and cornbread that could double as perfume for any true Southerner. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
