Alien: Sea of Sorrows (Book Review)

The Alien franchise debuted in motion pictures back in the 1980s, and the franchise has continued to expand ever since. The series narrative continues in the newest release from publisher Titan Books and author James A. Moore titled Alien: Sea of Sorrows. The release is the second book in the series and is the successor to Out of the Shadows (Alien). The new book takes place in the future with a new narrative that follows a descendent of the Destroyer, Ellen Ripley. Fans of the Alien series will have no trouble getting into this new book series, and the new storyline means readers don't necessarily have to read the first book to pick up a copy of Alien: Sea of Sorrows and understand what is going on.

Deputy commissioner Alan Decker works on the notorious location of LV178 to ensure the safety of the various colonies and colonists on the planet. Decker's world is soon turned upside down when he is sent along with a team of mercenaries to investigate an ancient site in search of a living Xenomorph specimen. Decker soon begins unraveling an even bigger mystery of his own heritage while fighting for his life in this fast paced action novel. Fans of the science fiction shooters that placed a heavy emphasis on intense gunfights and Alien encounters will quickly fall in love with Alien: Sea of Sorrows. The book picks up intensity early on in the new novel and never lets up over the next 300 or so pages.

James A. Moore seems to really be in his element in the science fiction genre, and the author shows a deep understanding of the Alien universe in both the crafting of characters and locations. The story does a fantastic job of introducing characters that readers can easily comprehend and match an imaginary face to. The story continues to develop these characters throughout the book, so readers are never quite sure what secrets may be uncovered next. Combined with the exciting action in the book, the character writing makes the new release one of the best books we've read in the science fiction genre in 2014.

Furthermore, Alien: Sea of Sorrows features a strong sense of the history of the Alien franchise. Fans of the series will not be disappointed with the new characters and familiar weapons and locations featured throughout the book. Moore does change a couple of things that have yet to be seen in the world of Alien, including one major secret about the story's main protagonist, but these are some interesting twists that keeps the book refreshing to read. Moore's writing style is compelling, and the Alien narrative is one of the best seen outside of the major films from the series. Look for Alien: Sea of Sorrows from Titan Books today.

Alien: Sea of Sorrows is now available from Titan Books and can be purchased for $7.99. For more information on Alien: Sea of Sorrows, check out the official Titan Books website.

This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
