FarSky (Video Game Review)

FarSky is now available from FarSky Interactive for PC, Mac and Linux. Players can download the game via Steam for $14.99 in order to experience the ocean in an epic new adventure that allows them to survive by crafting their own weapons, equipment and more. Are you ready to start your journey across the dark depths of the ocean floor? Read on to learn more.

FarSky opens up to a beautiful opening that gives players a look at the bottom of the ocean floor. Gamers can choose to play the regular campaign or Sandbox mode. Sandbox mode allows the individual to adjust the game settings where you can pick the Speed, Predator Spawn, Day/Night Time, and Starting Equipment.

Before starting the regular campaign in FarSky, you must choose your game mode with only the Adventure one being unlocked from the start of the game. Once you complete FarSky you will unlock Survivor mode where predators are more numerous and difficult. You start out as the character Nathan who is making a call in about his ship going down and finds himself on the ocean floor looking for a nearby base. The base includes an open chest that contains a drill, extractor, fish, coal and iron to help you survive your new surroundings. Players can also use a cooker in their base alongside the piece of coal to cook themselves up a nice meal in order to increase their health. Lastly, in your base you have the Main Workshop where you can build equipment, weapons, furniture and buildings.

The main screen has several controls such as your Max Depth radar, location beacon, health, oxygen level and your item list. There is a lot to discover in FarSky with the first task being to repair droids and collect iron with your extractor. Iron is used to build a large slew of items within FarSky which are all constructed in your base. The more you explore the water then the hungrier you get. In order to cook up a nice meal then you will make a weapon shop with tools like Spear guns and knives which can be used to kill fish to cook. However, make sure you do not kill too many fish at once, because the fresh smell of blood will attack nearby predators like sharks. Of course, you don't want to battle with large predators with very sharp teeth, so you have to use a bit of stealth mechanics to get around when looking for valuable supplies. If you find that you do get hurt, players will need to collect seed weed to make their own bandages to treat their wounds. Gamers can also grow vegetables in their personal garden at their base like potatoes, green beans and carrots if they feel like fishing for food becomes too overwhelming.

The main objective in FarSky, besides survival, is to collect all of the nine submarine parts in order to rebuild and make your way out of the ocean. The worse time to hunt for supplies and submarine parts is at night because that is when all of the predators come out to feed. Nothing is scarier than minding your own business just collecting iron, and a creepy sea creature pops up behind you and takes a bite out of your butt. That is the moment that you run back to your base and stare at the windows waiting for a safe moment to make your next move, however, if you feel brave then you can just take on the sharks and make an even tastier dinner for yourself!

Not every creature in FarSky is dangerous and you will find several friendly animals to observe throughout your adventures. The worst monster you will come across is the Kraken, which is so powerful that it can destroy your entire base, and you will be forced to rebuild. FarSky is a great underwater simulation game that will have you crafting terrific items while building your very own unique adventure. In order to explore further into the open sea, players will need to gather supplies to upgrade their various equipment like their helmet, diving suit and oxygen tank through gathering gold.

FarSky features responsive controls with exciting combat sequences that never seem repetitive or boring. The visuals in the game are perfectly brilliant with a color palette that feels very realistic within each environment that you explore. On top of all of this, the soundtrack is superb and features sounds that you would expect to find at the bottom of the dark depths of the ocean floor, which can sometimes be very terrifying once the lightness fades and the most dangerous creatures come out to play.

In the end, FarSky is a great game that is not only ridiculously entertaining but offers up innovative gameplay for an overall enjoyable experience. FarSky offers a fun storyline, great building and combat mechanics alongside strictly fantastic sound and visuals. FarSky not only offers up a great simulation experience but is a creative masterpiece. If you haven't played FarSky then check it out today!
