The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back (Video Game Review)

The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back concludes the newest season for Telltale Games' most popular franchise. The aftermath of The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 4 - Amid the Ruins has left the group broken and divided. Clementine will need to make many gut-wrenching decisions for players to progress further into the final chapter, and gamers won't feel good about several of the choices they have to make along the way. It's this misery players feel that has made both The Walking Dead comic and television series such tremendous successes, and The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back seems to be following the examples set by previous entries to the post-apocalyptic franchise.

With Lee gone, Clementine has lost her protector and has had to grow up very quickly in a world full of undead cannibals. Things have been going wrong for Clementine ever since the beginning of The Walking Dead Season 2, and the final chapter simply piles on even more problems for the little hero. The choices players make in The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back will be difficult and will often force Clementine to choose sides. This, in turn, leads to the removal of several group members along the way and sets the table for what is next for Clementine with whichever characters remain by her side. Telltale Games has managed to make player decisions matter a lot more in the finale, and the newest release is one of the best because of it.

Much of the gameplay included in The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back is focused on player interaction with the other characters introduced throughout Season 2. There are a couple of puzzles and several fights for players to solve and fight through respectively, but the focus is on the game's characters and narrative, as it should be. The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back lasts only a couple of hours, but what happens during the game will stick with players long after they've unlocked the last Achievement or Trophy for the game and watched the ending credits roll.

After finishing The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back, it's difficult to explain how the game will leave players feeling. The multiple paths and branching storyline means players will want to share their story about how their version of Clementine turned out, but at the same time, players won't be able to help but second guess several of the decisions they made throughout the game. Luckily, gamers can always go back through the game and make decisions differently, but the initial storyline that gamers unlock the first time playing through The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back will stick with them for a while to be sure.

The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back is just as visually impressive as previous releases in the season. That's to say that the game has a fantastic cel-shaded color scheme that excellently translates the storyline to video game form for fans of the comic series. There are still graphical hiccups after certain decisions or when heading into loading screens, but it hardly breaks the game's immersion. Sound design is still top notch in The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back, and the final episode may feature some of the best voice acting yet, as several characters reach their breaking point in the final entry.

Fans have waited nearly a year after the first release of Season 2 to reach this point, and The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back does not disappoint. The chapter is full of grueling decisions that will leave players second guessing nearly every choice they make in the new storyline. The narrative is one of the best Telltale Games has ever produced, and fans of The Walking Dead will enjoy every moment of the gripping finale. The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back is now available on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, Steam, iOS and Android.

The Walking Dead Season 2: Episode 5 - No Going Back is now available for PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, Steam and iOS and can be purchased for $4.99.
