The Wolf Among Us: Episode 3 - A Crooked Mile featured one of the most shocking revelations of the series so far, and now, Telltale Games has released The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing. The new chapter allows gamers to experience the exciting fourth chapter of Bigby Wolf and Fabletown. The game series is based on the Fables comic series from Bill Willingham, and it offers a prequel tale for the series that is very much its own narrative. Unfortunately for fans, the newest episode may be the weakest the series has produced so far; the game is by far the shortest of the four releases, and it doesn't leave enough time to do much beyond building up rising action for what is sure to be an exciting finale for the series.
Both The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead are popular series from developer and publisher Telltale Games that have become very popular thanks in large part to the games' compelling storylines and decision making. The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing strays a bit from that path though. The new narrative feels rushed and doesn't seem to feature nearly as many consequential decisions as previous episodes. Most players will spend less than the usual two hours worth of gameplay in the new release, and not much is resolved in the chapter, and Telltale Games seems to be more content with setting up the action that is yet to come in The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 - Cry Wolf instead.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing isn't a completely terrible experience. The game still features the same great characters as previous episodes, but the interesting cast of characters can only carry the game so far. The story revolves around Bigby on a quest to learn more about and find the Crooked Man. By the end of the short campaign though, nothing is resolved and players are left anxiously awaiting the season's finale instead. Fans will still enjoy the new storyline simply for what the narrative has established in player's mind in the previous three episodes, but The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing is definitely the weakest release for The Wolf Among Us yet.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing still combines calculated player decisions with consequences and point-and-click mechanics that have players exploring areas looking for clues about what to do next. Players will find a few carefully crafted puzzles to solve in the game, and there is some action based around quick time events for players to enjoy as well. There aren't a whole lot of surprising changes included in The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing, but Telltale Games didn't really need to change the title's gameplay to make the game a success.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing remains a good looking game. The same frame drops, sound issues and graphical glitches still occur in the game, but The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing still has some of the best character models and color design choices in the industry. Additionally, the voice acting featured in The Wolf Among Us may actually be better than that featured in The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing is just another example of excellent voice acting and theme songs for the series.
The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing is the weakest release for The Wolf Among Us series, and the game may be the worst Telltale Games has released over the last two years. With all of that said, The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing had a lot to live up to for a series that has featured an excellent storyline and entertaining gameplay so far through the first season. The Wolf Among Us: Episode 4 - In Sheep's Clothing is still a fun game, it just isn't as good as the previous three releases. The game does a good job of setting up the season finale for The Wolf Among Us, and we can't wait to jump into the game's fifth and final episode!
The Wolf Among Us is now available for download on PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade and Steam. The Wolf Among Us is rated M by the ESRB for Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Partial Nudity, Strong Language & Use of Alcohol and Tobacco.
