T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4 (Comic Book Review)
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4 combines several key issues from the Dynamo, NoMan, Menthor and other heroes from the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents. These classic comics from the golden age of the 1960s and don't include some of the famous superheroes we all know and love today. Comic books have changed drastically over the last 50 years, but there is still something special about reading aged comics so many years later that fills a reader with both feelings of excitement and nostalgia. Only readers that have a deep appreciation for comic book roots will likely enjoy the release to its full potential, but there are some good stories in the 200 pages that still remain entertaining and relevant in the modern age of comics.
NoMan is an android with the ability to turn invisible, Dynamo uses the power of the Thunder Belt to become powerful and invulnerable to most attacks and Menthor has powerful psychic powers that grant him plenty of special powers. The three are key members of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and are some of the starring characters in the comics included in T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4. These may not be household names of comic characters, but comic fans can easily make references to other comic heroes and villains with these classic characters that will likely be new to most readers of today's generation.
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4 includes NoMan #1, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents #11, Dynamo #3 and NoMan #2. Each comic in the collection contains several stories in one book, so fans actually receive 20 different stories in all. Some of the content feels really outdated, but the stories and situations are still very compelling and will make readers want to continue reading once they've started. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4 doesn't have the iconic characters that easily draw readers attention, but the comics are still well written and worth checking out for enthusiasts to be sure.
There isn't any bonus content included in T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4. The collection has the original comics reproduced exactly as they were printed in the 1960s and contain no additional content. This means readers aren't introduced to any characters, settings or preexisting storylines, but since most of the comics come from the earlier prints in the series, it's still easy to pick up and read the comics without having any prior knowledge of the universe. Still, the comics are aged, not all of the references make sense in today's generation, and none of the heroes really stand out as anything special. The stories are good, but without the iconic characters the comic book industry is known for, it's hard to recommend to book to anyone but diehard comic fans looking to learn more about the history of the industry.
T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4 is now available from IDW and can be purchased for $29.99. For more information on T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Classics Volume 4, check out the official IDW website.
