Are you ready to recruit your team of heroes and take on the Evil Cedric Sparklehands and his group of minions? Read on to learn more. Epic Island is a beautiful island, full of vibrantly illustrated creatures, who you must defeat in order to survive your perilous journey ahead. There are five heroes that will help you on your adventure who are equipped with diverse talents to help you succeed. The main aspect of Epic Island is to complete timed quests in order to gain experience points, gold and other useful items in order to build up your fame throughout the land. Once you think you have what it takes to be the best then you can test out your wits against other players in the Battle Arena.
The first step to beating the evil sorcerer is to hire your character some help! The heroes available include the Dashing Male (youth and plant dagger), Daring Huntress (keen wits and cold dagger), Wise Man (experienced and fire dagger), Nimble Elf (quick and lightning dagger), and the Stout Dwarf (treasure lover and earthen dagger). Each hero in Epic Island wields their own special weapon alongside the advantage of being quick, experienced, smart and so forth. There is a lot of strategy involved with forming the perfect team and you must weigh in how each hero will contribute to your overall goal of gaining fame and defeating Cedric Sparklehands.
The controls for Epic Island are simple and easy to learn with only the need to tap the screen to use the game's mechanics which includes selecting levels, fighting enemies, upgrading and gathering resources. Players will start out at the Evil Tree Level 1 which takes place beneath the dark caverns of an old tree with the ability to take on your first monster --the Vile Mushroom! In order to take on the monsters, players must select a "hero" and click "Fight." Every battle will let players know how long the fight will take alongside how much fame and gold you will earn if victorious. As you progress throughout the game, players will get better rewards during battles which will help them throughout their quests. If you realize during the quests that you need to upgrade your armor or weapons then you can head over to town and hit up the Blacksmith for better equipment. Remember that you can always get better equipment by combining items and don't forget you have to "equip" the item to achieve its full effectiveness!
Epic Island features a very informative tutorial that will help you get started before taking the reigns by yourself. The only downfall to Epic Island is the waiting around due to the fact that everything is timed, like the quests, which can get aggravating for those players who like to move across the levels quickly on top of the fact you have to use your gold to open up treasure chests that are earned from battles! These are just a few things you will get in any free-to-play game, but there is still quite a bit of fun to be had despite these minor annoyances.
In the end, Epic Island is a decent game with colorful visuals, intriguing characters and fun gameplay. The story may seem a little silly with the Evil Sparklehands looming over your fate--I mean he doesn't appear that scary--but that is the whole point!
