Phase 4 Films has released their latest horror title, Mine Games, starring Briana Evigan, Julianna Guill, Rebecca Da Costa, Rafi Gavron, Ethan Peck, Joseph Cross and Alex Meraz. The film starts out with seven friends vacationing to a remote cabin in the woods--which is never a good start for any characters in a horror movie--look at Cabin Fever and The Cabin in the Woods. However, Mine Games features some twisty roads and takes the viewer on a horrific journey like no other. Are you ready to learn more? Read on.
The friends in Mine Games think they are out for a pleasant retreat away from their normal lives and are ready to party it up while on vacation. However, the journey in Mine Games takes a sudden turn when the vacationers are ran off the road and stumble through the woods to the cabin which is just the beginning of their adventure. Michael, played by actor Joseph Cross, starts to see strange things and becomes eagerly upset at everything around him due to the fact he has stopped taking his medications. While Michael spirals out of control, the entire gang soon find theirselves drawn to an old mine that is located near the cabin.
Mine Games has a decent script and cast of characters but suffers from some obvious plot-holes along the way. There is also a bit of over-and-under acting by some of the film's cast which can make some moments just not as terrifying as they could be. The best part of Mine Games, however, is the eventual time loop that is discovered that not only peaks the viewer's interest in what is happening but alternatively keeps you hanging in there until the very end. When some of the friends start to notice their own dead bodies within the mine or see the rotting corpses of their fellow vacationers then you know you are in for a twisty road of suspense and thrills.
In the end, Mine Games is a decent film that will keep you entertained even with the occasional plot hole and mediocre character performance.
