Son of Nor (Video Game Preview)

Son of Nor is a unique action adventure game from developer Stillalive Studios and publisher Viva Media that finds players in control of a legendary warrior named in the title of the game. The player will be able to control many items in the environment to solve puzzles and fight enemies. Terraforming, telekinesis and elemental attacks are all part of the player's arsenal in Son of Nor, so there is typically no one single way to handle a given situation. The game is currently available to play exclusively in Steam Early Access, but the current build of the game offers a fun single player and multiplayer experience that shows promise for those that have already backed this Kickstarter funded project.

Son of Nor casts players as the Son (or Daughter) of Nor, a legendary warrior created by the Goddess of the Night and the only being capable of fighting back against invading Sarahul enemy forces to save the human race. The game takes players to vast and varied locations where long forgotten artifacts and even more dangerous enemies await. The game's campaign is a bit barren in its current state and doesn't feature much in terms of cutscenes and a storyline. The game's storyline isn't nearly as interesting as the game mechanics available to players iin the game, but the full release should further expand on the narrative and give fans a reason to continue fighting the good fight.

The primary reason players will be interested in playing Son of Nor is the game's unique mechanics that equip players with telekinesis, terramorphing skills and an ability to control the elements. Telekinesis allows players to move objects large and small with their mind to fight enemies or clear obstacles. Terramorphing is used to control sand and items with similar properties to literally change the ground the player and enemies walk on. Controlling the elements is also used to fight enemies, and players can even absorb two elements to unleash powerful combination attacks such as a fiery tornado with fire and wind elements.

Son of Nor isn't all about combat, as there are plenty of puzzles and hidden areas to access throughout the game. Players can terramorph sand to create new walkways to areas that were previously inaccessible, or telekinesis can be used to move a rock in order to navigate down a narrow pathway. Additionally, players can team up in up to four player cooperative sessions to combine powers and access even more secretive areas. One player may not be able to move a very large boulder on their own, but when players combine their telekinetic powers, even the largest items in the game can be lifted and moved to access a new area. The potential the special powers grant to players give the developers a nearly infinite amount of puzzles and combat scenarios to incorporate into their upcoming release.

Son of Nor looks a bit rough around the edges in its current state; the game itself looks fine, but some animation issues takes away from the immersiveness of the experience, while some items in the game simply lack polish that should be seen in the finished product. Characters in Son of Nor feel a bit like a Jedi mixed with an element bender, and this exciting combination still makes Son of Nor a game that should remain on gamer's radars as we get closer to the game's full release. Look for more information on Son of Nor coming soon.

Son of Nor is now available exclusively on Steam Early Access and can be purchased for $19.99. For more information on the game, check out the official Son of Nor website.

Master Your Aim: Why Every FPS Gamer Needs a Mouse Sensitivity Converter

When Your Brain Is Just Trying to Survive: What Prolonged Emotional Abuse, Betrayal, and Fear Do to You

There is something people often do not understand about prolonged emotional abuse: You do not simply “get over it.” You do not experience one hurtful event, cry about it, and wake up the next morning as the same person you were before. When someone repeatedly experiences betrayal, manipulation, control, isolation, emotional punishment, surveillance, instability, and fear, the effects can reach far beyond the relationship itself. They can change how a person thinks, sleeps, reacts, remembers, communicates, trusts, and even understands their own emotions. Sometimes, the person who has been hurt begins to wonder if they are the problem. Why am I crying so much? Why can't I calm down? Why do I keep checking? Why can't I just leave? Why do I feel exhausted all the time? Why do I keep trying to explain my pain to someone who keeps hurting me? The answer is often not that the person is weak, dramatic, or “crazy.” Sometimes, their brain is trying to survive. When Your Home...
