STL Ocarina (Music Instrument Review)

STL Ocarina is a St. Louis based musical instrument company that specializes in the wind instrument popularized by the highly popular The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The company was established in 2005 and provide a wide range of instruments including clay and plastic instruments and different models including some designed after The Legend of Zelda series and others inspired by the Marvel super hero universe and The Hobbit films. The products STL Ocarina provide are high quality and produce some great sounds that have been recognized by professional music organizations. STL Ocarina products have been featured in work from New World Symphony, Chicago Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. We were lucky enough to have a chance to go hands-on with some of the products offered by STL Ocarina, and we were left impressed even if not much more musically talented.

12 Hole "Iron Man" Tenor Ocarina
The 12 Hole "Iron Man" Tenor Ocarina is one of the best looking ceramic models offered by STL Ocarina. The instrument features a fantastic design based on the popular Marvel character. The product is officially licensed and includes a red and gold finish and a power cell in the center of the ocarina. The instrument measures close to 5 inches long and has a pitch of 13 notes. Owners of the 12 Hole "Iron Man" Tenor Ocarina will also gain free access to an online instruction booklet and an online song book featuring Marvel Hero Themes.




12 Hole Tenor Ocarina "The Hobbit"
The 12 Hole Tenor Ocarina inspired by Peter Jackson's The Hobbit was another impressive piece we had a chance to test out for ourselves. The ocarina offers some very similar specs to the 12 Hole "Iron Man" Tenor Ocarina including being tuned to the key of C Major with a range of 13 notes and a similar size and shape model. The ocarina does feature a different design that is more basic with a green color and fantasy flower design. Owners will be more happy with an online song book with different themes from the Lord of the Rings series that are perfect for the wind instrument.




12 Hole Plastic "Spider-Man" Tenor Ocarina in C Major
The plastic line of ocarinas offered by STL Ocarina has some different qualities not seen in the ceramic models. The 12 Hole Plastic "Spider-Man" Tenor Ocarina in C Major features another great design with the wall crawler scaling the instrument with a glossy finish, but the ocarina is longer than the previous two models and measures in at about 6.5 inches instead. The plastic models offer higher pitched sounds and a smaller range from A4 to F6. The plastic ocarinas also tend to hold more moisture that can tend to affect the sound quality of the instrument when not taken care of properly. The models are a considerable amount cheaper than the ceramic instruments however, so this ocarina is one of the best STL Ocarina offers for those that are interested in learning to play the instrument but that aren't sure how long they will stay dedicated to training.

12 Hole Tenor Ocarina with Zelda Songbook
STL Ocarina's best model instrument is the 12 Hole Tenor Ocarina. This beautifully-designed instrument is perfect for the die-hard Zelda fan and is available for only $85.70. The instrument measures 6 inches and produces pitches from A4 to F6. An instruction booklet and neck strap comes packed with the instrument, and it has other features similar to the 12 Hole Plastic "Spider-Man" Tenor Ocarina in C Major with the main difference being the instrument's blue color with the special triforce design. This model is perfect for beginners or Zelda fans and can be used to practice or to learn to play the wind instrument.
