The Shoot (Movie Review)
The Shoot is a new action thriller from directors John Adams and Toby Poser that stars a couple of would be rockers that find themselves in over their heads when attempting to rob a photo shoot. The new film stars Sam Rodd and John Adams as Dougie and Tommy and also features actor John DiMaggio, who is best known for his work on the television shows Adventure Time and Futurama. Despite the film starring mostly relative unknowns, there are actually some pretty strong acting performances throughout The Shoot and a storyline that will keep viewers interested until the credits roll.
The Shoot begins slowly, as fans are introduced to the many characters that will be seen throughout the film. Viewers get a chance to meet the different characters that work for the modeling and photography companies, before Dougie and Tommy are introduced as struggling rockers that aren't very likable characters from the get go. As the film progresses, the supporting characters become just as much or more interesting than the movie's main protagonists, and by the film's end, viewers will be rooting against the protagonists actually being able to pull off the heist successfully.
John Adams pulls triple duty on the film as writer, director and one of the film's most important characters. The movie maker does a good job as both writer and actor, but some of the film's most intense scenes could have been better produced to evoke the emotions the actors in the movie try so desperately to portray. John DiMaggio plays a loan collector for a shark, and though the actor's name is often associated with advertising for the film, he probably only appears in about five minutes of the film total. Luckily, some strong acting performances from the rest of the cast mostly make up for any other shortcomings with the film.
The Shoot is a film that starts slow and features main protagonists that are more antiheroes than characters viewers can actually root for. Interest in the film will come from the co-stars of the film, as fans wonder who will make it out alive and if the stars of the film will actually get away with their poor attempt at a robbery. The Shoot features some well thought out characters that ensures every viewer will have a character they can relate with, and only a few scenes of poor direction keep the film from being a truly memorable film. But in the end, The Shoot is a pretty intense film that will surely entertain fans and keep them intrigued until the very end.
