Mayan Death Robots (Video Game Preview)

Mayan Death Robots is an upcoming release from indie developer studio Sileni Studios. The game takes heavy inspirations from the Worms franchise while introducing several innovations that makes the game feel fresh and new. Players take control of Mayan robotic gods, each with special powers and attacks, that battle for affection of the Mayan followers. Fans of turn-based strategy games will have to make only a few adjustments to pick up and enjoy the new title, and the current build of the game shows promise as a very exciting multiplayer title.

Gameplay in Mayan Death Robots centers around turn-based combat with two players performing moves at the same time. Players can choose to move, launch an attack or build terrain in order to gain an advantage over their opponent. The object of most matches are to destroy the opponent's power supply, though there are bonus objectives including earning the praise of Mayan followers by destroying the enemy's god statues or killing an opponent and forcing them to lose a turn. Turns are much shorter in Mayan Death Robots than in similar games, and forcing players to make moves so quickly changes the way the game is played and often makes matches much more entertaining as a result.

Mayan Death Robots has some other cool features that works well for the new title. The final version of the game will include 10 playable characters, though all aren't available in the newest build, and the characters may change before the game's launch and beyond. What we were able to see from the game's preview was the fantastic designs of each character that helps represent the element they rule. The characters also get special attacks based on which element they rule. Chac, the God of Rain and Lightning, can launch an attack with three consecutive lighting strikes that can quickly remove terrain while also dealing damage to enemies, while Itzamna can launch missiles that burrow underground before exploding as the God of Earth. The unique characters go a long way in making Mayan Death Robots a fun and replayable experience.

Mayan Death Robots is a solid looking game that shows a lot of promise. The game's characters are very distinct and play differently without making any one single character too overpowered. The main drawback to the game is the only local multiplayer option currently available in the game. The title is a lot of fun in multiplayer matches, but if you don't have anyone to play the game with, you're probably playing the wrong game. The terrain building feature allows players to build Tetris themed terrain to block shots or gain a better vantage point, and combined with short turn timers, it changes the way the genre is played in a good way. Fans can continue to follow the development of Mayan Death Robots with BioGamer Girl. Stay tuned!

The demo covers your first four days on the job, teaching the systems while nudging you toward choices, obey protocol and keep the peace, or pry at the seams and uncover the post office’s darker purpose.
